The Girl Behind the Blog.

by Sally on May 20, 2012 · 39 comments

Hi! Sally here. I am the 27 year old writer, recipe developer, and photographer behind the blog. Thank you for visiting my little space on the internet.

Originally from Philadelphia, I moved to Baltimore, MD to attend college at Loyola University where I obtained my marketing degree. Here I met my fiancé, Kevin. Our dog Jude is a 115 lb German Shepherd/Rottweiler rescue. He is such a sweetie! Jude loves peanut butter almost as much as I do. Almost. I lead an active lifestyle, practicing yoga and running in races often.

I have worked in corporate finance full time for 4 years. Running my website is my second full-time job and when I am not in the office, practicing yoga, running, spending time with Kevin, family, friends, & Jude – you can find me working on my website or in the kitchen. Thankfully, I am a ball of energy to get through it all. :)

My favorite dessert is apple-upside down cake, my favorite TV show is How I Met Your Mother, and the only books I read are cookbooks. I’m terribly boring.

Sally likes: vanilla soft serve, flip flops, long runs, OPI Dutch Tulips, neon colors, homemade smoothies, live music, the other side of the pillow (the cold part!), polka dots, mango anything, the smell of suntan lotion, scarves, lists, crossing things off lists, ketchup, and margaritas.

Sally dislikes: milk, food without condiments, the camera flash, clutter, standing in line, chapped lips, unmade beds, cold driver’s seat, hot driver’s seat, not having a nail file on hand, folding laundry, and mayo.

Sally believes: peanut butter + chocolate solve anything, it’s ok to have the same shoe in 4 different colors, and making the perfect guacamole is an art.

Hi Sally!
My likes are, baking, cooking, spending time w/ my 2 sons 12 & 6 months, my boyfriend and my Min-Pin Radar…
I use to like going out dancing and having a good time w/ my friends, but baby Ian put a stop to that…
So, now we go out to lunch and have playdates…
I bake very well, everyone always wants my homemade stuff, now of only I could decorate as well as I bake… One day I’ll learn…
Everyone LOVES my sugar cookies & brownies, luckily neither have to be decorated.

Dislikes, liars, slow tourist drivers (I live in FL., Space Coast), noisy neighbors, out of control kids and pets and mostly…. mayonaise! Gross, Yuck, Disgusting…

There’s lots more, but my 6 month old is calling me!

P.S.) love your site and can’t wait to make some of these goodies!

Star – lunch + playdates sound fantastic! And as long as the baked goodies TASTE good, who cares how they are decorated! And slow drivers are the WORST! So fun to learn so much about you :)

haha exactly! I feel lighter crossing things off my list too… I’ve actually written things on lists before that I’ve already done, just so I can cross them off! That has to be weird!

Love this look into you! I love long runs too…and dragging my (rescue) dog along on them. Also…almond butter, polka dots, afternoon coffee dates and cotton sundresses are my favorites these days. I’m disliking packing and the heat…but excited to move across the country/home to Ohio in just a few days!

Some of my favorites right now are daisies, anything coffee, the beach, baking new yummy treats, zebra print, goodwill treasure hunting, lunch dates with my hubby…just a few:-)

I can’t recommend any good books, Star. But I often do browse cooking magazines, websites like foodgawker + pinterest to get some decorating inspiration.

Hi Sally!
I’ve come across your blog a few times in my recent rise to self-appointed foodie, but I just now added you to my bookmarks. I figured I’d read about you because, naturally, I assume food bloggers would be friends with me if they knew me. Boy, I was even more convinced after reading. Friends? Ok. My family avoids Friends references like land mines for fear of setting me off on a quoting extravaganza that basically includes the entire episode. I am a year into my Yoga Teacher certification and I live at the studio in my town (ok…not really. But I would if I could!) Let’s see…I have a german shepherd, an obsession with peanut butter, an inability to sleep without a fan no matter how cold it is, and I probably spend more than I care to know on gum.

Just thought I’d share. So glad to find your blog!

Dana

Dana! That is too funny. I think we may have been seperated at birth! I wish I had a yoga teacher certification! But I don’t have time. And I’m addicted to gum. and PB + Friends + fans. :)

Very cute post, Sally! Nice to learn more about the mind behind the masterpieces! I tried your golden oreo cake batter blondies last weekend – they were a big hit at a kayaking friend party my bf and I went to. I can’t wait to try your newest fudge and oh the cookie butter granola bars too! Keep up the good work!

Thank you LC! When I’m reading food blogs, I like to know a little bit about the baker/blogger behind the scenes. :) SO glad those blondies were a hit! Let me know how the fudge and granola bars turn out. :D

SALLY! You are so funny and I love it :) Even though I “know” you, this post was still so much fun to read!! You and Kevin (and Jude) are so cute together. Our Addie LOVES peanut butter too, we freeze it in her Kong and give it to her as a treat.

I loved this post! I think it is great that you want to connect with your readers. I am 26, although I act like I am 5 most of the time. I am engaged to a wonderful guy, and currently teach VPK in Bradenton Florida. My students are 95% of the reason I bake – and no, I do not feed them, lol! They stress me out to the point that chocolate and heavy calories are the only answer! I love baking and cooking, I recently started a blog. I love seeing sites like yours, because it inspires me to keep on blogging! I love elephants, Halloween, and boxer dogs more than just about anything. I am also Disney and cupcake obsessed!

Thanks for another great post! If you can, I’d love for you to check out my blog sometime. I’d value the opinion of a blogging pro! ;) Would be awesome to have a blog friend like you!

What about unmade beds bothers you so much? I think it’s one of the more pointless chore activities… I’m always curious when I walk by people’s windows and see into their rooms (I live in an apartment complex) and they have WILLINGLY made their bed haha. It totally befuddles me. :)
I came across your blog from a tumblr with a picture of the fudge brownie cupcakes with cookie dough frosting, and then I saw the cake batter rice krispies…. and that was it. I knew I’d found someone good. A little creativity goes a long way, and i love putting inspiring and unique recipes on my tumblr, and to occasionally make. :) I’ll let you know what I think of the rice krispy babies

Hi Sally.
Don’t remember how I accidentally found your blog but hooooooweeeee! Glad I did. I love, love, love sweets! Good friend of mine turned 30….she too loves sweets. I once made milk chocolate marshmallow cream cheese buttercream frosting for a red velvet cake and gave her the 4 cups left over. She ate it all. She weighs 109. She does not exercise. At all. Anyway, she loves frosting, lemon bars and anything pumpkin. So I made her a batch of your cake batter fudge….OMG! How incredibly, indescribably, awesome! Also made her a batch of lemon creme oatmeal squares. Also, a version of sl*tty brownies with molasses base, vanilla oreos in the middle and streuseled pumpkin blondies on top. So she got all her faves…something super sweet, something citrus-y and something heavily spiced but sweet.

In other words, I love to bake. When someone says. “that’s way too sweet,” I say there is no such thing.

I love your blog, the gorgeous photos and these wonderful recipes. Thanks for sharing them!

Hi Angie! Thank you so much :) I’m so glad you stumbled across my blog as well. And the photo compliment, thank you! You are so sweet to bake for your friend! Turning 30 deserves a lot of treats, those brownies with pumpkin and vanilla Oreos sounds simply INCREDIBLE. I love anything and everything PUMPKIN. And the lemon squares are absolutely one of my favorites ever. I’m glad you made them! They are pretty popular. I want to make them again. Thank you so much Angie and let me know what else you end up baking :)

Hi Sally! I just wanted to let you know how huge of a fan I’ve become of your blog. I’m living in a college dorm with a toaster oven right now, and I still try to bake as many recipes of yours as I can. My next project is to tackle homemade granola (your apple cinnamon granola!) with the world’s smallest cookie sheets. My question is though, and you must get this a lot, how do you stay so SLIM with all the delicious treats you whip up? Your pictures are amazing. I’m in the process of trying to lose weight and as much as I love peanut butter, it doesn’t love me. Any tips for staying slim but loving dessert at the same time?

Sally November 22, 2012 at 1:18 pm

Hi Sara!! Thank you so much for the sweet words, that really means a lot to me. Especially your comment about my photos. Photography is the hardest part! Love that apple cinnamon granola, it is PERFECT this time of year! I am looking to make it again this weekend, actually. :) I exercise a lot – running, yoga, and I am blessed with a fast metabolism. I also pass off my leftover desserts to friends, family, and coworkers. For healthier desserts, I bake alot with yogurt and aplesauceinstead of fat and typically reduce the sugar content. Thank you so much again Sara and Happy Thanksgiving!!
