Bites of Real Life, 12.

Welcome back to my Bites of Real Life posts!

Christmas

How was your Christmas? What did you bake?

I can’t believe it’s already past. Every year, it comes and goes so quickly!

I spent the past few days at my parents’ in Philadelphia and took the time off from my blog. It felt nice to disconnect! I ate a lot of good food, drank a lot of good drinks, made macaroons, saw Wolf of Wall Street (amazing acting!), caught up with my friends Amy and Katy, kicked my feet up, and spent time with the fam.

Christmas

The gals on the right are my sisters. People say we look a lot alike, people say we look nothing alike. Their names are Saundra and Sarah, respectively. Sarah just got engaged!

(Yes, we are all S’s.)

Let’s see, what else was I up to…

I made peanut butter roll candy (white divinity + peanut butter = all kinds of amazing)! I can’t wait to get my SBA cookbook in the next few months. I’m holding off from buying one in hopes that I win one; either way, I WILL get one! I have also had my eye on that GIANT cinnamon roll, so I am hunting down Red Star Platinum yeast! Glad you had a Merry Christmas, and I hope you have a Happy New Year! Say hi to Jude for me!

You needed a break, girl! I made an eggnog cheesecake with a gingersnap crust and a caramel drizzle on top. it was pretty incredible. The recipe called for store bought caramel, but I made your recipe for caramel instead. SO much better. store bought does not compare. I got the cheesecake recipe mostly from the blog Wine and Glue. Hope you have a great New Years!

    Kiraposted December 28, 2013 at 12:34 am

You kinda saved my life this holiday. My mother recently started a new job, and has ranted and raved about my positively superb baking skills(insert eye roll) to all her co-workers. Which in turn, stuck me making not one, but SEVEN coffeecakes for one of her employees! On top of having to prepare all the other pies, candies, and baked goods I always do for my own family! Sheesh! I say all that to say your base coffeecake recipe was my inspiration for the 7 cakes I had to make. Varieties I made included cinnamon almond butter, blueberry, apple/walnut, and strawberry cheesecake. Yes, all of these in the form of coffeecakes… They were a huge hit with the man who requested them and his family! He brought in about half of one of the almond butter ones back to the office the day after Christmas. He said that was all that was left of them! Guess they were well received :-) Merry Christmas girl!! Sending love and blessings for you and your exciting future!!

Hey Kira! This comment makes my day. I can’t believe you made 7 coffee cakes! You are an all-star, that’s for sure. I have to try an apple/walnut version. Sounds incredible! As does the almond butter version. Merry Christmas to you! And Happy New Year. :)

I think you and your sisters have similar smiles, but other than that, I guess I fall into the category of “you don’t look like each other” ;). My sister and I get the same spectrum of reactions…especially since she dyed her hair black, and mine is naturally brown/blonde and curly. The tree is beautiful! I hope Jude wasn’t too frightened… I know it can be difficult to enjoy New Year’s Eve knowing that your dog is packing because of the fireworks…

Happy New Year! I found your site in October and go to it whenever I am in the baking mood! I visited in-laws in Rio (we live in Canada) over the holidays and made MANY things from here!! The favorite was your nutella swirled peanut butter banana bread. Made it upon request there 3 times!! (I admit I did make it a little different and added a nutella/pb/chocolate “frosting”.. So more of a “cake”… But ultimately the same)…..
I LOVE this site and get the itch to bake something new every time I visit…. And I am no baker believe me! Thanks for the inspiration!!!

I love your blog site. I am a big fan of your delicious cookies. I have tried a few recipes and loved them. I just tried your Almond Chocolate Chip cookies. Wow1 What a recipie. Loved the cookies, hard to believe there is almonds in it. My kids won’t eat nuts in its true form but had no problem eating these cookies. Thank you. Been baking a storm. Tried the chocolate turtle cookies, chocolate chip, and the shortbread with the raspberry jam. All were delicious and I received many compliments.

Very glad you and your family loved the almond butter cookies! That is so great that they had no idea nuts were in them. And all the other cookie recipes you tried – you picked some of my favorites especially those raspberry shortbread cookies!
