Let’s Review the March Baking Challenge
March 2021 Sally’s Baking Challenge Recipe: French Macarons
The March 2021 Sally’s Baking Challenge was our 50th monthly challenge. We chose the most requested challenge recipe for the celebration, French Macarons, and gave participants full creative control over the flavors and colors. You could use our recipe for them or any French macaron recipe you prefer. We were so delighted to see so many entries, especially for one of the most difficult challenge recipes we’ve ever assigned. There were so many incredible flavors, shapes, and colors! Here are some that stood out: cookies & cream, Easter egg shaped, ombré rainbow shells, lemon & lavender, cookie dough buttercream filling, Nutella filling, heart shaped, cereal milk frosting filling, plus sprinkles, painted on designs, edible glitter garnish, and more. (I’m so intrigued and want to try my hand at all of these variations!!)
We hope you are very proud for trying, regardless of how “perfect” your cookies turned out. What matters most is taking that bold step to tackle something new. We gathered as many French macaron emailed photo entries as we could and included them below. Let’s admire all this hard work!

Wow! All these macarons are so incredible! I especially love the cookie monster ones! Like wow wow wow! Congratulations to the winners! I didn’t even know this baking challenge was a thing OOOO: How did I miss that? I just found out about it today and I have been following this blog for a while now! I really want to join in too! This seems like such a fun thing to do, especially to challenge my own baking skills and learn and grow as a baker (since I am still pretty young and still just starting out!) I hope it’s not too late to join in! Good luck to everyone for April’s challenge!!
Hi Casey, you have all month to participate (challenge ends on April 30th at 5pm eastern), so it’s not too late at all! We hope you’ll join us 🙂 You can also sign up for Sally’s Baking Challenge emails so you’re alerted as soon as new challenge post is published!
This was truly easy and that was a good thing, I made the tart for my birthday. Everyone loved it, especially the crust. I did go out and buy a tart pan being it was my birthday for goodness sakes. So glad I did, it was really pretty. For sure I’ll make this again. Super simple and tasty; how can you beat that. Thanks for another challenge; this has been fun.
The April challenge was so easy and delicious. I didn’t have a tart pan so used a pie dish. Will definitely get a tart pan the next time I make. Thank you!
Loved this recipe!!
April’s challenge is super!!! It even converted some non-blueberry lovers! This is a creamy, light spring desert and brightened the Easter table!! Thank you!’
I hope that this is the right recipe and that Sally is not fooling us since yesterday was April Fools Day! Congrats to the March winners!
Congratulations Beth and Courtney!! Job well done!!
Congrats, I wasn’t able to participate but the April baking challenge looks like a winner.
So many fantastic entries! Congratulations to the winners! April challenge looks like my kind of dessert so I might just try that one.
Congratulations Beth and Courtney!
Due to a health crisis with my mother, I was unable to complete the March challenge. I hope to get to it in April, as well as do the April challenge.
Everyone’s photos look terrific!
