Addictive Recipes from a Self-Taught Baker

Saturday Seven

7 simple, yet completely mouthwatering recipes on sallysbakingaddiction.com including glazed orange bars, raspberry mango smoothie, pretzel chicken bites, and peanut butter ice cream pie!

Saturday again! Hallelujah, I’m at the beach this weekend. My first beach trip all summer. Where did this summer go. I mean, it’s mid-August all of a sudden?!

I just, can’t.

However, with September around the corner you know that means Sally’s Candy Addiction is almost here! I have butterflies in my stomach. I’m anxiously awaiting my advanced copy in the mail. By the way, did you see the Look Inside feature on Amazon yet? You can only view it on a computer, not a mobile device.

You can pre-order my cookbook here: Qbookshop  Amazon  Barnes and Noble  Indiebound  Indigo. Speaking of Candy Addiction, I’m sharing the official book tour schedule on my blog on August 31st! Please check back for the dates and locations. We’re just finishing up some details during these next 2 weeks.

Oh my gosh! I almost forgot. I posted photos from our trip to the world famous Stemilt Orchard on my photography blog yesterday. Question. Are you having trouble subscribing or following my new photography blog? You can easily click over to it using the Photography tab at the very top of this page. (Scroll all the way up!)

Enough rando blabber. Let’s get to this Saturday’s round-up. First up? A thick, creamy mango tango summer sipper. Mmm, with raspberries too.

Remember this peanut butter ice cream pie? Neither do I. I shared the recipe in 2013, but it feels like ages ago! Bringing it back to life this weekend for obvious reasons.

A weekend’s favorite sweet snack: homemade caramel corn!

Seriously loaded with goodies. This is my very favorite oatmeal cookie recipe. One of them at least! Soft, chewy, room for plenty of add-ins like butterscotch and peanut butter M&Ms. I make this cookie recipe a lot when I visit friends or family for the weekend– it’s a crowd pleaser.

Soft & chewy Loaded Oatmeal Cookies. Sweetened with brown sugar and loaded with butterscotch, M&Ms, and chocolate chunks

This isn’t a recipe, but I want to bring this blogging post back to life for a minute. If you listened to my podcast the other week, you learned a little bit about how I grew my blog. Bouncing off of that is this post where I list my top 10 ways to grow your food blog. I hope it’s helpful to you!

How about something easy this weekend? Pretzel crusted chicken bites to the rescue! I love these dipped in honey mustard.

Hoping you’ve tried my glazed orange poppy seed bars by now. They’re like a cross between a blondie and a piece of cake. Oh, and they’re topped with a donut-style glaze of sorts. (!!!)

  1. Wow, that caramel popcorn looks fantastic! I think I will hurry up and check out your photography blog, because I love your photography style. Good luck with the new book – sounds very exciting! 😀

  2. I love those orange bars! You know my citrus addiction 😉 (my blog name, if I had one, haha). I am actually going to the Cheesecake Factory for their key-lime cheesecake tonight…technically I’m not supposed to have sugar or gluten, but I’m giving myself the day off for my birthday 😉 I haven’t been to the beach this summer, but I just got back from a business trip to Vail, so that was pretty 🙂

  3. Ooh I love the sound of the pretzel coated chicken bites. Your cook books are on my birthday wish list!! I promise to let you know how I get on with the recipes. Thank you for a great Saturday seven roundup. Sammie http://www.feastingisfun.com

    • If you need a good bagel recipe right now, check out Cook’s Illustrated bagel recipe from their Baking Illustrated Book. Really good bagels, chewy on the inside and a great crust on the outside.

  6. Sally these recipes look amazing! I’m glad you’re bringing back the peanut butter ice cream pie!

I know for me at least, when I tried to subscribe to the photography section a few weeks ago I got an error message saying my email was already subscribed. I didn’t have time that day to figure out what the problem was. Today, I had some time and tried it again, same message. I tried to click “both” and still same message. I ended up clicking “edit my preferences”, it sent me another email to change my preferences, I followed the link, and then I was able to change my subscription to “both” that way.
Maybe other people are having this problem as well?
I’m loving your photography section, though, and I can’t wait for your book tour!

    • I’m so glad that you were able to figure it out, Naomi! Sorry for the confusion– we’re still trying to work out the kinks. This is helpful– thank you!

      • Hi Naomi and Sally,

yes, I’ve been having the very same problem with subscribing to your photography blog, the problem is that I’ve changed my subscription to “both” at least 3 times (every time I realize there has been a new post to the blog that I didn’t recdeive in e-mail and try to resubscribe or fix the problem), but to thid day to no avail 🙁

  7. Wow Sally!  I love your blog SO SO much! I’ve made quite a few recipes from your blog, and they all turned out superb! Thank you so much!!!

  8. Hi Sally!
I just got your book today and I am sooooo happy.  The recipes are amazing.
I would like to thank you for being an inspiration to me. I am only 12 but can whip up sweet treats like a pro thanks to your tips and recipes. Thank you so much!
    Love from Singapore,
    Steffi.
PS. I love your blog! Keep up the good work!

  9. I get a cavity just looking at this website! How you come up with all of this amazingly delicious stuff is beyond me! I think my daughter and I will try the caramel corn to sell next weekend. She made plain, salted popcorn on the stove last week and sold bags for $1.00 each. She made $23 in 2 hours from our driveway! With your recipes, she should be able to make even more!

  10. I tried your chicken teriyaki recipe this week a-mazing!   It was sooo good, easy to make and healthy.  My family gobbled it up.  I need to find more recipes like it.  Thanks so much!

  11. I’ve made the caramel corn and those orange poppy seed bars before Sally! My husband loves the caramel corn. I try to only make it once in awhile because it’s so addicting! I think we should try the pretzel chicken next. Looks so easy.

  12. I’m so exited to get your new book! I’m in love with your other one and can’t stop baking

  13. I have made the orange poppy bars twice now and they have been a big hit with the family, the kids love to help make them.
I have made a lot of your receipes and they have all gone well.
I have you first book already and the next one on pre-order since forever I can’t wait for it to finally come.
Love your blog and all the awesome food you do.
    Thanks for being you.

  14. LOVE the post about how to grow your food blog! So useful! 🙂

  15. My husband had a fundraising picnic last night so I decided to try the orange poppy seed bars. (I bought poppy seeds a while back when I noticed you were on a poppy seed kick and this was the first time I’ve used them. I’m a fan!) Because I wanted to make them the night before and because it was DISGUSTING and soupy, raining and hot and humid out, I made an orange frosting instead of your glaze for topping them (just in case the weather might make the glaze ‘wet’ or some such) and they turned out very nicely. A big hit. (Next time I make them, I’ll try your glaze. Looking forward to the ‘next time’ for sure.)

Also, I pre-ordered the Candy Addiction cookbook! Very excited for all the new recipes, and just in time for the baking/candy-making holiday season. Wooooo hooooooo! Three cheers for Sally!

    • Glad you loved the orange poppy seed bars, Natalie! And I can’t wait until you get the candy addiction book! So many recipes you will love.
