Addictive Recipes from a Self-Taught Baker

Saturday Seven

Mocha Chip Biscotti recipe on

Hi! Another Saturday to spend together gushing over recipes.

What are you doing this weekend? It’s my friend’s 30th so I’m in Ohio celebrating. (I’ll be back in November, Cleveland readers!) Had a little surprise party last night and her reaction of sheer shock was hilarious. Happy birthday Ree!

Guess what. I joined snapchat. Finally jumped on the bandwagon this week and I’m obsessed. Username: sallysbakeblog. Come see behind the scenes of my incredibly strange blogging life. I think I’m now using the stories feature correctly. I hope. #old

One more thing! There’s a giveaway for an autographed copy of Sally’s Candy Addiction right this way. Woohoo!

So we’re creeping into a new season. And with the cooler weather approaching, I recently made and re-shot my pumpkin oatmeal bars. Have you ever made these? The recipe feels ancient since I shared it back in 2012.

If you’re still eating a ton of zucchini, add my chocolate zucchini bread to your baking list. I’m sorry, double chocolate zucchini bread.

Thrilled football is here so I can eat bacon-wrapped cheesy stuffed jalapeños (say that 3x fast) while Kevin watches the game.

I went to dinner the other night with Lynn and we (naturally) were talking about puppy chow recipes which got me thinking about peanut butter puppy chow.

And this stuff has butterscotch too so you should just buy larger pants now.

That time I posted blackberry apple muffins and talked about visiting Ree in Cleveland which is exactly where I am again today.

But really, you should try those muffins.

Perfect after-school snack to make with the kiddos or with your buds on the weekend. Easy soft pretzels! One of my most popular recipes with not only my blog readers but also… me. My freezer is full of them.

Last one! I’m dying for you to try this mocha chip biscotti. It’s ridiculously good and I promise biscotti isn’t that tricky to make at home. And it tastes better homemade because, you know, stuff always does. Made with love.

So corny today.

Q: Have you tried any of these recipes before? Thoughts?

Q: Whatcha up to this weekend?

Right this way for afternoon adventures!

  1. Haven’t tried any of these yet but the pumpkin oat bars look great! Going on my list! I’ve got a busy weekend full of work, baby care and prep for next week

  2. Butterscotch is my favorite non-fruit flavor, so I LOVE that puppy chow! The blackberry muffins are awesome too…I bake really infrequently in summer, because after being in my fortress of an office all day, I cannot bear to be inside any longer…but I’m looking forward to doing more as it gets cold! It turns out I do think I will be in town for your signing! 😀

  3. I’ve made the double chocolate zucchini bread and it was incredible. Tastes like dessert – but hey, it’s a vegetable! Next up will definitely be something with pumpkin in it. Maybe these awesome looking bars….

  4. Thanks for the shoutout, Sally! xoxo

I’ve been dying to put some soft pretzels together. And also stuffed jalapeño peppers! Ever since I stuffed baby bells over the summer, I’ve been wanting to stuff all kinds of peppers with all the cheese in the world (do you know where I can find some? Oh wait… 😉 ) Hope you’re having lots of fun in Ohio! On my agenda today is photographing some recipes and playing with my new WordPress plugin (omg I can’t wait to talk with you about this most amazing thing you’ve brought to my life!).

  5. These recipes look really good! I’m always looking for yummy desserts to make and post on my blog. Your baking is amazing!!!

  6. I LOVE your Biscotti recipes.
I remember thinking this is too difficult but still wanting to try.
I made the almond biscotti on Saturday afternoon and they were ALL gone by dinner!
Very next day I tried your Mocha biscotti… Wow.. Never knew they could be made at home!!
PLEASE more biscotti recipes.. PLEASE 🙂 Remember, I wanted Sally’s Biscotti Addiction Book next 🙂
PS: In your list, I have tried the Chocolate Zucchini bread as well. My husband and son loved it!
Give the restrictions at home with me being a vegetarian and my son having all tree nut allergies, I am happy I have tried 51 of your recipes…

    • Yeah! So glad you tried the chocolate zucchini bread. And you’re right– I need to try a new biscotti recipe. Maybe around the holidays!

  7. I’m hoping to make the pumpkin bars from your cookbook this weekend!! Perfect way to jump into fall and all things pumpkin!

  8. Oh my… those PRETZELS!!! Yes please! Going shopping now for some larger pants. 🙂

  9. You always read my mind with these Saturday Sevens. I just made some tea and I was wishing I had some biscotti. I’ve made your mocha chip biscotti once before and they were so great. They really come out looking like they do in the picture. Perfect amount of flavor, too.

  10. I’ve been making the chocolate zucchini muffins ever since you posted. New mid morning snack staple for me 🙂 Awesome recipe, thanks Sally!

  11. I’ve made the pumpkin oatmeal bars (perfect fall on-the-go breakfast), the chocolate zucchini bread (I made them into muffins), and the blackberry apple muffins (made them for a picnic with friends and everyone loved them!)
I’m excited for your cookbook to come out. Sad to see Nashville isn’t on your book tour, but it certainly looks like you will be well traveled after your tour 🙂

  12. Well it was a crappy weekend in Ohio.  My boys had a cross country meet yesterday. Nasty drizzly cold wet weather. Yuck. I think I’ve burned the family out on chocolate zucchini bread.  Made some last week and still have a whole loaf left. Those pretzles are calling to me though. They would make good snacks for lunch boxes. Have a good week.

  13. My son just started kindergarten and would love those pretzels! Will definitely be making this week, thanks for sharing!

  14. I have tried your Double Chocolate Zucchini Bread. Super yummy! The kids and I loved it! I had mine with a nice hot cup of coffee and the kids had theirs with a cold glass of milk. Soooo good and satisfying with rich chocolate flavor and moist texture. . . it just melts in your mouth!

  15. I’ll have to try those jalapeno bites! I don’t like spicy stuff, but all the friends with whom I watch football do!
