Let’s Review the January Baking Challenge

January 2018 Sally’s Baking Challenge Recipe: Homemade Bread Bowls

Many of you have been nervous to bake bread from scratch. Yeast intimidates you. And with the cold weather and soup on the stove, I figured homemade bread bowls were the perfect fit. The dough recipe is extremely simple, yet versatile: rustic bread loaves, pizza crust, dinner rolls, etc. I enjoyed seeing how you used it!

One of my favorite recipe reviews came from reader Alyssa:

“Thank you so much for such a great and easy recipe!! This was my first time using yeast and everything came out perfect! I made your creamy chicken noodle soup with it and everyone in my house enjoyed the meal!! I will definitely be making both again!”

We gathered as many bread bowls photo entries as we could and included them below. (Email is the best way to guarantee your photo will be included!)

PS: Did you try the homemade bread bowls? What did you think?

  1. Every month I have the best intentions of doing the Baking Challenge! This is THE ONE I’ll definitely be participating in!! 😀

  2. Hello Sally,
A little while ago I sent a message about asking when your first cookbook would be available in hardcover on Amazon again? Currently it’s still saying hardcover is out of stock and only paperback or kindle is available. I have your other two recent cookbooks in hardcover and would like to get the baking addiction in hardcover as well.

    Thank you,

    1. Hi Jacquelyn! Just confirmed that the hardcover is no longer available, just paperback now. Which is great because the paperback has bonus recipes inside!

  3. These look fantastic! Are French macarons on your baking challenge list? Those are something I would love to master but need more guidance!

    1. They’re not this year, but that’s because I have an entire tutorial already on my blog. I hope you try them!

  4. What a great idea to choose the winner from those that have made the challenge and added the hashtag! It really makes sense considering your blog is all about encouraging people to expand their horizons. I hope that becomes a regular thing.

  5. Hi Sally! I have tried a few times to email you a picture of the cake pops my kids and i made and they won’t send I dont have social media so I’m not able to share my pictures that way.

  6. Hi Sally. I just finished the cake pop challenge. My niece was so impressed she asked if I could ship her some. Do these ship well? Any recommendations on how to package them for shipping?  Thanks

    1. Hi Willa! I’ve never shipped cake pops myself. I was curious as well, so I gave it a quick online search. Check out Bakerella’s method: http://www.bakerella.com/shipping-sweets/

  7. Hello Sally,
I am so happy that I have found your website. Honestly, each recipe that I have tried is so precious and perfectly delicious and I have never had any issues!
Thank you so much for being a great, awesome and wonderful person.
My kids had a great birthday celebration in class with her friends because I had made cake pop from your recipe.
I am so happy and giving your a big hug from Canada!
Please keep up wit all the delicious recipes.

    Warm regards,
