Helloooooo October. Can you believe the new month begins tomorrow?? September was a big baking month for us. We each learned how to pipe sunflowers, reviewed all my favorite tips and tricks to make the BEST cupcakes, had fun during cookie week, welcomed the first pumpkin recipe in 2017, and my 3rd cookbook was published!!!!
(And on a personal note, celebrated our 3rd wedding anniversary and brought our beautiful baby girl into the world. Can’t wait to introduce you to her soon. ♥)
This coming month, let’s focus on a real classic. The epitome of all pumpkin cakes, the pumpkin roll. Many of you have been requesting this recipe and I’m thrilled to teach you how to make my favorite version.

What is the Baking Challenge?
- On the 1st of every month, I post a new recipe complete with a quick how-to video, plenty of tips, tricks, and photos.
- I want you to bake the recipe yourself during that month! Come back and tell me how it went.

Recipe: Sunflower Cupcakes
I was nervous about September’s Baking Challenge. I feared many of you would be intimidated to try this piping style, but after only a couple days I was thrilled to see many of you facing your cupcake decorating fears. You’re unstoppable in the kitchen and I love it. This was a special baking challenge because it centered around HAPPY. With all of the chaos in the world right now and the devastating hurricanes this past month, I wanted September to focus on something uplifting and bright.
And I’m still completely overwhelmed by the response to September’s baking challenge! Many of you participated and showed off your incredible piping skills during the month. The general response was: “this is so much easier than I ever thought!” Which is exactly what I’d hoped to hear. Piping designs on cakes and cupcakes doesn’t have to be difficult or complicated. In fact, it’s surprisingly simple. The hardest part is mustering up the courage to try.
October Baking Challenge
Like I mentioned above, we’re rolling deep into a super-moist + super spiced PUMPKIN ROLL! This traditional fall dessert is actually quite simple. Not very many ingredients at all, the bake time is crazy short, we’ll use my favorite cream cheese frosting, AND we’ve already explored cake rolls on my blog before (red velvet cake roll and strawberry sponge cake roll). The tricky part is rolling it up, but I have a new video for you to show you exactly how to do it. This fall you’ll conquer the pumpkin roll!
