How was your 1st week in the new year?

Mine was a success. Right now I’m in the depths of writing Sally’s Cookie Addiction, my 3rd cookbook. We’re working on mock spreads and I’m pushing through this manuscript with all my might. I tested and photographed 8 new cookie recipes this week, on top of photographing 2 new recipes for the blog. This was a mountain of food! Luckily we’re going to a birthday party tonight. And yes, I’m bringing 10 dozen cookies.

I still need to choose a new book! Thank you for all the suggestions. I’m still sifting through most of them, but will let you know my first pick.

1) Also for the party tonight, I made these peanut butter cup surprise cookies. This is an older recipe on my blog, but one that certainly should not go unnoticed!! You don’t know there’s a peanut butter cup inside until you take that first bite. Like piñata cupcakes in peanut butter form.

2) I enjoyed reading Brown Eyed Baker’s goals for 2017: 17 in 2017. Especially being more consistent with meal planning and reading before bed.

3) For the goal of disconnecting more to live more, I left my phone at home and we ventured out into the snowfall on a dinner date one night. This was our first real snowfall of the 2016-2017 winter and Franklin’s first time in the snow. Though it was only 1 inch, he LOVED it. ♥

4) Cookie goal: unicorn cookies.

5) I have lots of new quick recipe videos in 2017! Here’s a cream cheese frosting video, soft pretzel bites (many of you asked for this and were surprised to see how EASY they are!) and a video for making my favorite slow cooker chicken chili.

6) In the spirit of eating healthier this month, here are 31 days of healthier comfort food recipes. And then you can make a champagne mimosa cake for dessert.

7) What’s your favorite frosting flavor? Working on a new category section for the blog: all my frosting recipes. 🙂

Have a good one!

  1. Favorite icing ever: raspberry-strawberry mascarpone buttercream from the Recipe Girl!

Also LOVE your vanilla buttercream with the whipping cream in it 🙂

  2. My favorite frosting is one I tweaked to make it my own: mascarpone coffee frosting (heavy on the coffee) . Sometimes cream cheese is too tangy for me (only on occasion I swear!) and mascarpone is just more mellow. Also I made your rainbow chip recipe a few months ago… Holy cow it was delicious, I almost didn’t leave enough for the actual cake!

  3. Sally, I know you loved The Little Mermaid and you told me you enjoyed Frozen. Now go watch Moana. Pls keep an open mind, its not the typical princess movie that we grew up watching, but its a good watch, and if nothing else it is uplifting! (Although my disclaimer is I still prefer movies like Beauty and the Beast and Cinderella over Disney’s new princess)
Also, for your new cookbook if you can (zero pressure)…can there be a recipe that has Biscoff in it? Cookie butter is used all over Europe so I know you have a huge fan base there that would appreciate it too.

    1. Great idea, Iram. I need a couple more recipe ideas for the book and Biscoff is a wonderful suggestion! Thank you 🙂

  4. Hi Sally!
LOVE those monster cookies with the hidden reeses cup!! Must make them again soon….  As for frosting, my favorite is for sure the merengue frosting on dominican cakes (i am from the dominican republic so i may be a little biased), its like no other frosting.  In fact, its my favorite cake even! But following in close 2nd place is chocolate frosting (& cake!).  I’m still dreaming about your triple choc layer cake I made last week….  Must try your soft pretzel bites soon….(with the cheese dip, yum!).
As for reading, I love it! But reading before bed usually results in me going to bed really late as I cannot put the book down…. So many great suggestions in your last post!  Will have to check some of them out.

  5. P.S.!!!
I forgot to add that i made your chocolate dipped almond biscotti this week minus the chocolate dip (cause i didn’t have any baking chocolate) & they turned out wonderful!! I don’t care for store bought biscotti (i made them mostly for my sister) but these are fantastic! So yummy & really nice crunch without breaking your teeth!  Will definitely try other varieties!

  6. My favourite frosting is chocolate fudge, I love your recipes but the frosting is usually buttercream, it would be great to see a fudge frosting with melted butter

  7. Lately, I’ve been enjoying books by Jojo Moyes and Liane Moriarity. Some of my favorites are:

Liane Moriarity: What Alice Forgot (awesome!! this is the one that got me hooked on this author), Truly Madly Guilty, The Husband’s Secret, Big Little Lies

JojoMoyes: The Last Letter from Your Lover, One Plus One

  8. Browned butter frosting – yummm! Especially good on banana bars!
A really good peanut butter frosting is also a must. Good on just about anything.
