A few of my friends are visiting this weekend and we’re digging right into the American flag pie I made on Facebook LIVE this week. That was filmed back on Monday, so I just froze the pie until last night. Stuck it in the fridge overnight and it’s sitting at room temperature until we start pigging out. Cannnnnnot wait.

These are my college girlfriends and with living in different states, busy work schedules, hectic lives, and starting families– it’s really hard to all get together. And, sadly, I feel like it gets more difficult to find time as we get older and responsibilities increase. So the weekends we do reunite are extra special and cherished. I haven’t seen them since I got pregnant in December!

Some things to share this week though!

1) Guess what! I’ll be back on Facebook LIVE this Wednesday and continue filming on Wednesdays at 1pm ET. Mark your calendars– on Wednesday I’m teaching you how to make royal icing to decorate summer-perfect sugar cookies. It will be a new recipe on my blog this Monday and I swear they’re so easy.

2) I’m making another batch of orange sweet rolls for breakfast this morning. (Pictured above!) Because orange sweet rolls > cinnamon rolls.

3) Have you seen this loaded peanut butter layer cake? Now THAT’S a sight for sore eyes! And while we’re on the subject of peanut butter, this chocolate peanut butter banana bread. I also want to try these delicious lemon brownies and how much fun are this stained glass jello stars for the 4th?

4) I’m weird and don’t watch a ton of TV, but I’m in need of a new series for the summer. Kevin and I both like comedy and drama, but we’re not too picky. We have Netflix. What should we start watching?

5) Quick read: 5 things you need to do right now to change your life. I’m working on #4. Mostly bucket list things I want to start as a family of 3. Ok, 5 if you count the pups!

6) What’s your favorite pie flavor of all time? Working on some new pie flavors and would love your ideas!

7) Um, have you seen this!? 24 layers!

Have a delicious weekend!

  1. When I was little, A&P had a rhubarb/apple pie that I loved, then they stopped making it. My sister made one for my bridal shower 20 years ago, but I haven’t had it since. My mom makes a refrigerator pie with strawberry Jello, vanilla ice cream, chunks of strawberries and banana, and a graham cracker crust. It’s called Parfait Pie, but my daughter asks for it as Pink Pie.

  2. I love French silk pie!!! also is The British Baking show on? I love that show! I looked for it? Is it on Netflix now? Or regular tv? Thanks!!

  3. Orange sweet rolls are AMAZING.
My favorite kind of pie is probably coconut cream or lemon meringue. Unfortunately, no one in my family likes those so I never make them (sad day).
I asked my father-in-law what he wanted for Father’s Day and he said a 20-layer chocolate cake. That 24-layer cake looks like it would be just right haha!

  4. If you are looking for original Netflix programming: Dear White People and Stranger Things. 3% is interesting if you like fantasy/Hunger Games type plots. And if you want soapier fare, 13 Reasons Why. Enjoy!

  5. We don’t watch much tv but the hubs and I got hooked on Shameless. Be warned though, this show is full of nudity, swearing, vulgar but it’s funny at the same time. Kinda makes you feel better about your life too lol

  6. Sherlock Holmes current tv show on Netflix. Awesome. I made your orange rolls this past Easter. They were great. I want to make this new recipe soon. I bought some oranges today 🙂 Thank you for your recipes and time you take to share! I hope you have a great week!!

  7. Um! Hi Sally! I’m a HUGE fan from down in Australia- For pie ideas, what about Apple and Custard Pie? My fiancé keeps requesting one, but it’s a hard one to find! 🙂

Pretty please with a cherry on top!

  8. Drop Dead Diva! (on netflix) the plotline is so smart and interesting and it assures some great laughs! Also for a straight-up comedy I really recommend Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt 🙂

  9. I looooove White Collar (crime/detective show that has some drama but is also really funny), and my current favourite is Psych (similar to The Mentalist but much more comedic)!
And my grandma makes the BEST butterscotch meringue pie!

  10. I second Shameless! William H. Macy is a great actor! As for pies, I love peach pie and most anything with peanut butter.

  11. Master of None on Netflix. There have only been 2 seasons and each episode is 30 minutes. That is all I can stay up for these days when watching tv. 🙂 It is so funny! Another Netflex gem is Lovesick. My husband and I really enjoyed that also. Also 2 seasons so far.

  12. Netflix- comedy Jane the Virgin actually more dramedy. For a drama, Outlander or the Crown also I believe American Netflix has the British baking show , which is amazing

  13. TV show: I don’t know if it is on Netflix but maybe “Mad about you” from the 1990s could be something for you? It has the wonderful young Helen Hunt, a cute, funny dog – and Lisa Kudrow as supporting actor (before she got famous for Friends). Plus: the hairstyles and clothes – so hilarious 😀 I so love this series!
Also: we had the Orange Cinnamon Rolls for breakfast today – wonderful! I found some delicious Navel oranges from Spain yesterday and had to make these sweet rolls. Thank you so much, that flavour really is something special.

    1. I used to watch mad about you when I was younger! But it sure has been awhile 🙂
I’m so glad you made and enjoyed those orange sweet rolls!

  14. I will second Great British Bake Show, especially for someone like you! I love, love, love it! The creations that these self-taught bakers come up with are incredible, and since it’s a British PBS production, it features delightful shots of the English countryside and baby lambs because, why not?!

  15. I definitely recommend Psych and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, because both are super funny. As for pie, I have always been partial to something with meringue and a good old fashioned buttermilk pie.

  16. Definitely Parenthood for an awesome series on Netflix! Just warning you, it will make you super emotional…especially while pregnant…but I love shows like that!

  17. Last Man Standing if you liked Home Improvement as a kid. Short episodes.

Strawberry rhubarb pie is my favorite! Would love to see your take on it.

  18. Hi, Sally! If you haven’t yet gotten into the Doctor Who series, maybe give that a go. The entire series has been around since 1963, but I’d suggest skipping the older ones and starting with with 2005 series revival. It used to be available streaming on Netflix, but now the seasons are only on DVDs. I’d also recommend Stranger Things, The Bletchley Circle, The Tudors, and The Great British Baking Show – and they’re all available for streaming.

  19. I’ve been enjoying Longmire primarily, with side forays into Parks & Rec and NCIS. I never watched them when they were on regular programming, but with Netflix I enjoy them when we have a calm evening. When a new season is on for Blacklist or Person of Interest, I get on them too. I like not being bound to watch TV at a specific time, so nice.

I agree with everyone, Stranger Things was great, and the OA as well. Enjoyed The 4400 and a couple other oddball time-travel/scifi shows.

I cannot finish The Walking Dead and probably never will. -_-

  20. Love your recipes Sally, but I’m doing keto so not an option right now. That doesn’t stop me from drooling though, just reading your post! We are watching Suits on Netflix and we absolutely LOVE it! Fantastic series, and one you won’t regret watching. We have been known to binge watch! There are I think 5 seasons up on Netflix and the 6th will be coming. Great show! Hope you are feeling great as you move through your pregnancy! Pictures?!

  21. I’d love to see your take on custard pies 🙂 (Buttermilk pie, chess pie, coconut custard, etc.) I think they can be tricky to get right, so I know your breakdown would be a fabulous addition.

  22. You HAVE to watch How To Get Away With Murder!! I have never seen a show that makes you want to watch the next episode like this one!
