Life is what you bake it sign

Happy weekend to you! What are you doing? What are you baking? We’re headed to a wedding and it will be the first time we’re out for the night without our baby girl. It’s just for the evening and she’ll be with my parents, but I’m still so nervous!!!! It seems so unnatural to be going out and about without her at this point. She’ll be fine. I’m a nutcase. I need to relax.

In other news…

1) I’m in love with this print! I found it on Etsy, framed it, and it now sits in my office. Baking bffs, you need this.

2) Many of you have asked about the status of our freezer meals. We have about half left… including the vegetable lasagna. I cannot wait to bake that next week. Out of all the meals we’ve eaten, though, my favorite has been the chicken noodle soup. It’s so thick, creamy, comforting, and I definitely appreciate that it’s lightened-up.

3) Do you subscribe to my website via email? I started sending out weekly newsletters earlier this fall and am offering my first exclusive discount to email subscribers: custom printed utensils. You see these often in my pics. I adore them and they make wonderful gifts. Visit this page to subscribe via email. You’ll find the discount code in the next newsletter. They send out on Thursdays. 🙂

4) Recipes I’m itching to try: chai spice chocolate chunk cookies because we’re having a chai moment, pumpkin s’mores cake, simple nutritious and delish: cinnamon baked apples, and hot cocoa crumb cake!

5) Juuuuust in case you need a muffin recipe to try this weekend: apple crumb muffins. This is an older recipe on my blog. I made a batch or two before Noelle was born and froze them. Thawed them out last weekend for family visiting. Just as good out of the freezer, I promise. My mom thought they were fresh and she’s difficult to fool when it comes to baked goods!

6) Facebook/Instagram LIVE!! I miss cooking/baking with you and our weekly Facebook LIVE/Instagram LIVE videos. I’m not getting back into my regular weekly Facebook/Insta LIVES just yet, but I’ll be filming one next Wednesday. Mark your calendars: Weds November 15th 1pm ET. I’m doing the November Baking Challenge. I’m making pie, troubleshooting pie crust with you, and decorating it with a festive fall design. All you have to do is visit my Facebook page at 1pm ET and it should be at the top of the feed. Press refresh if not. I’ll also be LIVE on Instagram at the same time too. 🙂

7) Speaking of! How are your November Baking Challenge pie crusts coming along? I’m in awe of some of your pictures. Thank you so much for participating and for sharing your creations with me. This is a fun challenge!

Happy baking! 😍

  1. Hi Sally…. I just love your site.  I turn to your site for all of my baking needs (wants).  I know that when I bake something using your recipes that I will have a fabulous final product.  You think ahead and offer suggestions in using the recipe… there is no guess work!  Thank you for providing bakers a genuine site where we can all turn too when deciding what to bake!  Blessings to you and your beautiful family.

  2. Sally,
You are my baking inspiration. I absolutely love all your baking and candy books.
Enjoy your weekend. Thank you for all your hard work.

  3. Good Saturday morning! I love having a full freezer, esp muffins. I’ve been making apple cinnamon from your master muffin recipe but will have to try these out. Our freezer actually died last Sunday so I was awash in thawed chocolate chip and cinnamon chip scones – the silver lining was having an excuse to eat so many in a few short days. Now trying to bake and restock. Enjoy your night out and thx as always for your delightful updates!

  4. That print is by Lily & Val and they are my faaave! I think of you often when I see her posts on Insta, you should follow her! She also created the Keepsake Kitchen Diary which totally seems like something you would love. Good luck with your first night away from baby! Noelle is so darn cute. I can’t believe how much you still do after having a baby, you are an inspiration!

  5. I love that print!
I’ve been stocking up my freezer before I go back to work. This week I added BBQ chicken, spaghetti sauce and 4 kinds of muffins. I tried your triple chocolate muffins but could not get them out of the pan in 1 piece. I normally just spray the pan for muffins but I guess I’ll have to try liners next time. Your whole wheat apple turned out perfect as always! Now that I’ve made a lot of practical things I might need to bake a treat this weekend!

  6. I’m in love with that print too! Hanging in my kitchen to remind me of my love for baking everyday is an art project I took on this summer: I painted my family’s favourite recipe for chocolate chip cookies on canvas and it above the dishwasher. It’s my favourite décor item. Anyways, enjoy your night out Sally! You deserve it & everything will be fine 🙂

  7. Chai Spiced Cinnamon Rolls! That’s what I was thinking this afternoon after eating your Overnight Cinnamon Rolls for my daughter’s birthday breakfast! I also made your Funfetti Sugar Cookie Cake for her party as well as your Sugar Cookie Cut-Out cookies and Royal Icing from your new cookbook for the girls to decorate at the party. Pics will be on Instagram. Enjoy every moment with your daughter, even the moments away because those are important, too, and help you be the best mom you can be.  Thanks!

  8. Love the print as well! It’s soooo perfect for you!!! Just wanted to tell you, I made your apple crumb cake & pumpkin roll recently. It was the best filling in a pumpkin roll that I ever had! The cake was delicious as well! Thanks for sharing your talents & your family with all of us!

  9. I made your good morning sunshine breakfast cookies today! So good! Looking forward to breakfast this week 🙂 So in love with your site!

  10. Thank you, Sally, for your wonderful books and blog!  I have made several  cookies and cupcakes already from your books and they are great.  Best wishes with your new baby, and of course your dear Jude and Franklin!  My baby just left for college and I think it all went by in about five minutes … the days are long but the years are short!

  11. lol, my best friend’s wife owns Lily and Val. Small world and I cannot believe that you bought a print!! I’m happy to see they are doing so well and that print is adorable. Maybe if I’m nice to him I can get one at a discount. I just wanted to share that I made your dark chocolate zucchini cake again last weekend for my Wine Tasting party and my family 100% thought I bought it at a bakery. They couldn’t believe how moist and delicious it was. I honestly think it is your #1 recipe like… ever. Your pie crust recipe is also a grand slam. Haven’t had a chance to do the baking challenge yet but I AM excited to bake a pecan pie next week for Thanksgiving (I only use your recipe for both crust and filling!) Have a fantastic week lady!!

    1. Hey Angela! That is SO COOL you have an “in” with Lily and Val. I love their stuff. All their stuff. Their entire brand!

Thank you for the sweet comment and I’m so happy you love my recipes, especially that pie crust. It’s my absolute fave.

  12. I made a triple chocolate muffin mix and I used olive oil instead of canola oil. Bad mistake. So I am going freeze them never making them again. I see you do not use oil in your recipe for triple chocolate muffins. Why is that?
Can I use trivia baking blend in your triple chocolate muffin recipe? Please let me know.
