September 2019 Baking Challenge: Homemade Cheese Bread

This is the year you are conquering your fear of yeast. We started the year with Homemade Bagels, moved onto Dinner Rolls, and now we’re settling into a completely homemade loaf of bread. The perfect back-to-school/start-of-fall baking recipe. This ultra soft bread is stuffed and twisted up with cheese. Wait until you see the swirls of cheese inside!!

Everyone who participates in the September Baking Challenge is automatically entered. See below for How to Join Sally’s Baking Challenge. My assistant and I keep track of your photos and randomly select 1 winner at the end of the month. This giveaway is open to the whole world. Giveaway ends on September 29th 2019 at 5pm ET.

1 winner will receive: $250 Amazon Gift Card. Winner will be selected at random and posted in the October Baking Challenge blog post on September 30th 2019.

Let’s Review the August Baking Challenge

August Baking Challenge: Vertical Cake

Can you even believe that you made this skyscraper beauty of a cake? I thought we’d have a low participation rate in August because of the level of difficulty AND August is a typical vacation month. Well. Judging by all these towering vertical cakes, I was clearly wrong! Your stunning cakes make mine look amateur. I love all your cakes!

One of my favorite comments came from reader Aubrey:

“This was my first challenge to participate in and I loved it! What a fun idea! The cake turned out great and was fun to assemble. It was the most uniform looking cake I’ve ever made. I felt so accomplished after I finished. I’m looking forward to the next challenge!”

We gathered as many vertical cake photo entries as we could and included them below. (Email is the best way to guarantee your photo will be included!)

Giveaway winner for August is Robin and she has been notified. πŸ™‚

      1. I’m a bit confused, is the giveaway winner ( congratulations robin ) the winner of the baking challenge as well?

  1. Can’t wait for this cheese bread! Looks so good…and so do all the vertical cakes – amazing job participaters and congrats Robin! πŸ™‚

  2. Congrats to everyone who participated in the vertical cake challenge! So impressive. Sally, I’ve been looking for a cheese bread recipe, so I am very excited to try it! Thanks for sharing and inspiring me!

  3. Wow! There were so many beautiful cakes. It looked like it would have been very difficult to judge the best one. Congratulations Robin,

  4. Congratulations Robin and to all who participated!! Well, mine isn’t in there because it didn’t turn out so good. I am pretty sure that I over-mixed the batter and it looked like one Sally showed in her post of failures!! I should have added the flour mixture in 3 additions instead of 2. I kept mixing it because I kept finding pockets of flour. It tasted great, but it definitely wasn’t made for pictures!!!! I will try again soon. Cheese bread! Yes please!!

  5. I have just recently stumbled upon this blog and I absolutely adore it! I actually came across the sprinkled episodes on amazon while late night nursing my newborn! Turns out I have been using some of your recipes for years without even knowing it! Your story and passion have inspired me to keep bettering my knowledge of all baking techniques and grow as a baker. Thank you for giving me the confidence to do so! I can’t wait to join in the monthly baking challenge!
