Sneak Peek: Sally’s Cookie Addiction

My manuscript deadline is approaching at ultra high electric mixer speed. So don’t mind me as I procrastinate and show you pictures of recipes in the upcoming book.

I’ve been working on this beast since last July, easing into it ever so gently. It usually takes me a few months to get into my cookbook writing groove. Then, like a snap of a gingersnap, I turn into full-blown beast mode. That beast came out in November as I began ferociously testing and retesting new cookie recipes to fill the pages in this book. I’m like that in most areas of my life. It takes me awhile to get used to something– a new song, a morning run, a new food– but once I hear it a few times, am running for a few minutes, or eat the food for the 2nd time, I’m ALL in. Same goes with work. I produce my best work, cookbook or blog, when I’m under pressure and working my hardest. Are you like this too in your career or life?

I’ve been photographing at least 4x per week and, naturally, left it to the past few weeks to edit said photos. Now I’ve been looking at cookies 24/7 and see chocolate chips in my sleep. Wait, I always see chocolate chips in my sleep. Baking is life.

The book writing process hasn’t been as challenging as it’s been in the past. Perhaps because I’ve done it before or because cookies are my comfort? The challenging part has simply been the workload. Slowly but surely, I’m getting there.

I should be because my deadline is THIS SUNDAY.

Let’s talk about what’s in the book! Here’s what I know so far: we have the cover designed and are working on page spreads. The book will be set up like Sally’s Baking Addiction and Sally’s Candy Addiction with a photo for every single recipe and plenty of tips, tricks, and notes sprinkled throughout. The Amazon cover you see is not the actual cover. Hello my big face. And, on Amazon, you’ll see the book is for pre-order! I encourage you to wait until April to pre-order only because I have bonus cookie recipes for you. I’ll publish that big pre-order announcement in April, so stay tuned! If you already pre-ordered or want to soon, no worries! Just hold onto your emailed receipt. More on pre-order + bonus recipes next month.

There are 8 chapters in this book and 75 total cookie recipes. Besides traditional cookies, there is also cookie bars, my favorite shortbread, meringues, no-bakes, thumbprints, biscotti, cookie cups, and more. A few classic cookie recipes that are published on my blog will also be published in the book with a couple tweaks, added notes, and new photography. Recipes like sugar cookies, gingerbread, and chocolate chip cookies. Cant publish a cookie book without those staples! But the other 70+ are exclusive to this cookbook and I’m extremely proud to unveil each. I’m confident about each and every single recipe and even enlisted a few friends to help test out in their own kitchens. It’s been fun getting the feedback and reworking recipes where need be.

I won’t be going on a 18+ city book tour for this cookbook because (1) MAN that was exhausting last time! and (2) for a reason I’ll tell you about soon! But I hope to visit some places for a couple events here and there if I can. 🙂

I can’t wait until you start baking these cookies, which will be just in time for Fall and holiday baking. The cookbook publish date is September 15th! But, like I mention above, I have bonus recipes for you to begin baking this spring. Stay tuned next month for a big pre-order announcement. Thank you for your endless support, dedication, and readership. You know I couldn’t do this without you.

Now, buh-bye until Monday morning!!!

  1. Natalie Munroe says:

I am very much like that, too, with the needing to get used to an idea and then going full steam ahead toward a deadline! When I was in high school and college, I used to check all of my research materials out of the library right away and then let them sit on my desk in my room until a day or two before the paper was due. Such a weird way to work, but it always worked for me. Sometimes I even make myself fake deadlines just to put the pressure on.
Anyway…I’m looking forward to the new cookbook. Cookies are my fave.
Good luck on your final push to the finish-line!

    1. Yes! I don’t know why I’m like that, but it seems to work for me too! Faking deadlines is a great idea too. I’ll have to start doing that!

  2. Jenny from says:

I am so looking forward to the book. Just looking at the pictures makes me want to eat a cookie with a large glass of milk. You are almost there!

  3. AHH I’m beyond excited for your next book – your hard work is so appreciated! I hope you’re able to fully enjoy this process – hang in there and good luck with the deadline. Wishing you a stress-free weekend ahead, as much as possible! xo

    1. Thanks Liz!

  4. So excited for your next book!!

  5. I will be dreaming of those peanut butter cookies tonight. I think your bakery style pb cookies will now go on the baking list for this weekend. I agree with you about cookies, they are my happy place and I always feel the most comfortable and confident when baking them. Especially yours! Good luck as you finish up the book this weekend. Take a deep breath, your almost there! 🙂

  6. Patricia @Sweet and Strong says:

I definitely work best under pressure.  I have no doubt you’ll finish by Sunday and it’ll be amazing!  And I can’t even imagine staring at cookie photos all day long, I would be SOOOO hungry, lol.

  7. Lynn @ Fresh April Flours says:

So excited for you, Sally! This is totally your niche. When I think of SBA, I think of cookies. I feel like I could write a 100 cookie recipe cookbook and have a hard time CUTTING some! There are billions of cookie recipes and just not enough time in a day to make them all. Right?! Can’t wait to get my hands on a copy of this one– but I demand a Panera date to get my copy signed again! 😉 xoxo

  8. Laura @ The Bluenose Baker says:

So exciting! I personally don’t work well under pressure, but I’m confident you’ll get it all done! I’m looking forward to getting out of newborn mode and back into baking mode by the time it comes out – baby Violet and I will have lots of fun making cookies! I won’t speculate as to your other coming announcement 😉

    Good luck!

  9. Ahhhhh! I feel like my friend just said “so this is happening, but I can’t tell you!” haha You can’t leave us hanging like that! Very excited for your new book and next announcement! 🙂

  10. So so excited for your new cookie book! I think this one might be my favourite yet! Those cinnamon roll cookies are just the prettiest thing ever. And those whoopie pies! Can’t wait to get my copy 🙂

  11. Marina @ A Dancer's Live-It says:

I hope I get to see you again if you do another book tour!! 🙂 Good luck with the rest of the recipes! I’m so excited!!!

  12. Kayle (The Cooking Actress) says:

although now I’m wondering if the “reason” is that you’re pregnant lolol

    1. Catherine Smith says:

I totally came here to say the exact same thing!!! SO EXCITING!!

      1. Laurie Scarcello says:

Me too!  Can’t wait for this book to come out and looking forward to April sneak peak at recipes.

    2. Me too!!!

    3. I am thinking the same thing! Haha I love baby news! Nonetheless, I loooove cookies and can’t wait for the new book! goodluck Sally 🙂

  13. I work like that too! I have a deadline on Monday, that I have known about for 2 weeks, but you know I waited until yesterday to start! I don’t know why I do this to myself sometimes, but I always seem to make it work.
I can’t wait for this next cookbook! Cookies are my favorites too. And I am crossing my fingers you will do some local signings. I live halfway between Baltimore and Philly, so I am hoping to meet you this time! The stars just weren’t aligned for your last two tours. I was finishing my MBA during your first tour and had classes I couldn’t miss and went into labor 3 weeks early on the night I was supposed to meet you in Columbia for the Candy Addiction tour. Can’t wait to see your beautiful work, bake some cookies, and hear the next announcement! I’ll just keep my mouth shut about what I think that could be that would keep you from touring in about 6 months. HAHA!

  14. Yay, congratulations! I’ll always purchase all your books. It looks like dog treats are in there too? Super cool! If you’re visiting anywhere, I hope Houston is one of your spots. I’ve been gearing up non-stop macarons especially unicorn ones now and I’ll save a box for you. 😀 Take care Sally.

  15. So excited about your newest book!! Hope you can make
Back to NYC for a book signing, I missed last time!

  16. Misha Hunter says:

I am so excited to see and order your third cookbook! Congratulations! Love the photos – my favorite is the plate of dog biscuits with an anticipating pooch in the background. 🙂 All the best for a smooth and stress free completion!

  17. So looking forward to it! It’s going to be great!!

If you need a recipe tester in Scotland….

  18. Eeek! I cannot wait until your next book comes out! Just the thought, makes me want to bake cookies! Come on September!

  19. I cannot wait for the new book. I love to bake SOOOOO much. Your recipes are divine.

By chance are you going to be busy with a teenie spritz cookie:)

  20. Sharon K (The Farm Chick Bakes) says:

I’m SO like this too Sally….I work very well under the pressure of deadlines…gives me that ‘boost’ of adrenaline I think. I’m beyond excited about the new book and will wait to pre-order as you suggest. I absolutely LOVE this picture of you and think the cover looks excellent! I always say ‘visuals sell’ and your photography ‘alone’ sells your books and makes you ‘want’ to bake the recipes (my opinion of course). Best wishes as you approach this deadline and can’t wait to receive the post with the pre-order announcement! Have a great weekend, Sally

  21. Sally. You do not know how excited I am for this cookbook.. or maybe you do because that’s why you’re making a cookie cookbook in the first place lol. Either way, I love your recipes and I can’t wait!!

  22. Rebecca Davis says:

I am seriously SO excited for this cookbook. Will definitely be pre-ordering next month, September can’t get here soon enough.

  23. Thank you for all of the hours you are investing in your new cookbook!

We appreciate the time and care that you are putting into each step of its preparation, in order to make it as great as we know it will be!!!

  24. These cookies all so look tempting, especially those peanut butter-looking ones! I’m so excited for this cookbook to come out. It isn’t super often I make a huge layer cake, a pan of brownies or bars or even a batch of muffins, but even with my busy life, I feel like I make cookies at least every other weekend. It’s fun, relaxing and, well, it’s easier to get rid of 36 cookies than a monster layer cake. SO anyways, super excited to bring 70 new cookie recipes into my life, I know you’re not going to disappoint in this book because you didn’t disappoint AT ALL in your last two books 🙂 Have a busy but great weekend Sally!

  25. I love the cookie recipes on your blog, and use some of them in my bed and breakfast. Looking forward to this new book, especially knowing that it will be new stuff!

  26. I am soooo excited about this cookbook! Cookies are by far my favorite…to eat and to make 😉

  27. Very exciting! Can’t wait to pre-order book #3! And Cookies too! <3 Good luck this weekend — I know it will turn out great! Hopefully you'll make it to Boston again for your mini-tour. Can't wait to hear about the 'other' announcement 😀

Keep doing what you're doing! You bring a lot of joy (and sprinkles) to a lot of people. And isn't that what the world needs? 🙂

  28. I’m reading that there’s going to be a little SBA follower in the future…… THOSE PICTURES WOULD JUST BE THE CUTEST THINGS EVER!!!!!!
So excited for your book, i’ll pre-order in april 🙂

Sending puppy kisses, and love to your family!!

  29. I can’t wait for this! I already own (and love) your baking addiction book, but as a cookie afficicionada I am very excited about it. I’ll definitely pre-order it (in hopes that it can be shipped to Brazil).

  30. Julianne @ Beyond Frosting says:

Sally I am so excited for your third book! I can’t imagine how many cookies have come through your kitchen in the last several months. Congrats on nearing the finish line!
