Introducing: Sprinkled

So many emotions as I share my first ever video mini series!

(The emotions are 5% because of this and 95% because I just spent my first 2 nights away from Noelle and she sort of said “ma ma” before I left and I’m a total basket case and I’m counting down the minutes until I see my baby girl tonight!!)

What began as a casual way to share recipes with my friends has blossomed into a life-changing career where I get to connect with equally passionate bakers around the world. When I first hit publish in 2011, I had ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA what I was doing, I just knew that I LOVED doing it. And after 7 years, 3 cookbooks, mistakes, growth, and about 3 billion dishwasher cycles, I’m elated to say that my dedication, work ethic, and love for baking hasn’t faded. At all.

But it’s time for something more. This past April, a video production crew filmed me at work in my kitchen. Most of the time together was spent filming 8 step-by-step recipe tutorials, but they also filmed me working, writing, editing, photographing, and recipe testing. The inspiration behind all of this:

  • craving a deeper connection – I want to give you the front row seat so you can see what goes into each recipe and blog post, as well as life as a mother and business owner.
  • inspire – seeing my recipes come together in a video may inspire you to try it yourself!
  • trying something new – because entertainment is fun!

My video mini series is called Sprinkled. ♥

Episode 1

Episode 1 recipe: Homemade Strawberry Cake

The kick-off episode is Strawberry Cake. I chose this recipe because it’s 100% from-scratch strawberry cake made from real strawberries and has become a reader favorite since I published it in January. The process is a little unique where you begin with reduced strawberry puree and finish with strawberry frosting made from freeze-dried strawberries. It’s a FUN cake and I thought you’d love seeing it come together on camera!

  1. I’ve just finished watching the inaugural episode and I love it! Coincidentally I baked and froze the strawberry cake last Sunday but I messed up the baking soda and baking powder. It smelled so good so I hope the cake still turns out acceptable for my son’s party on Saturday. I’m using ermine buttercream with freezedried strawberry powder for the frosting because cream cheese frosting seems just too soft for my climate. I’ll be sure to update after my party. Thank you for being an inspiration and great baking teacher, Sally!

  2. Such a cool video!! And so professionally done. I love that you didn’t skimp on any steps like measuring or reducing. It helps to see the consistency of reduced pureed strawberries and how you trim cake tops. That 1/3 tip about the frosting though, just made my day. I never know how much frosting to use between cake layers and how much to use for the sides. Can’t wait for more Sprinkled episodes!!

  3. Hi sally can I use greek yogurt in place of sour cream I really want to try it but sour cream isn’t sold in my country

I realize often that as a blog reader and not a blogger myself, the shear amount of work it takes to produce and publish each post. 22. This looks amazing! So excited to check out the first episode when I get access to YouTube (imagine it is blocked at work!? haha).

  23. Hi Sally! So excited for Sprinkled 🙂 Your blog is my go-to resource for delicious recipes and baking tips. I have a question about measuring flour. I’ve used the “spoon and level” method before. However, my preferred method is to use my kitchen scale to measure out the specified weight in your recipe (e.g., 150 g). Is this method of measuring flour also okay to use? Thank you!

    1. Hi Heather! Thank you! I always suggest the spoon & level method because I know most home bakers don’t own a kitchen scale. I use my kitchen scale all the time when I’m testing recipes and if you have one, I definitely recommend using it.
