Coming This September

17 weeks-2

Kevin and I feel immensely blessed and are eternally grateful to share this incredible news with you. In addition to the release of my 3rd cookbook, we’re having a baby this September!

17 weeks

The journey to this miracle has been a melting pot of emotions. Not many women talk about this out in the open, but I want to take a moment to offer hope to women and families who have experienced pregnancy losses. There is light beyond the darkness and a shred of hope after heartbreak.

I’m 18 weeks along– I feel healthy and strong. I don’t exactly look about 5 months pregnant yet (totally pushing out my belly here!), but I certainly feel it. My appetite hasn’t changed much though all I seem to crave is salt on top of salt. Sleeping has been difficult, but I just got a snoogle so hopefully that helps!

I’ve been waiting so long to tell you and am full of gratitude to be at this stage. The truth is, I felt overwhelmingly emotional and anxious in my first trimester (not to mention nauseous and exhausted from book writing and hormones) that I was a walking basket case. Probably a good thing I hibernated all winter with my cookie manuscript and 10,000 cookies. Maternity yoga pants, you’ve been a gem.

1st trimester

We’re finding out the sex soon, but are keeping it a surprise. Thank you for sharing this special time with us as we focus on welcoming our 1st bundle of joy!

Real quick: In case any of you mamas are expecting too, here are some clothes I’ve been loving lately. I felt overwhelmed and completely lost when I was shopping, so I spent a lot of time reading reviews online about the best maternity activewear.

  • Active maternity cropped leggings – expensive but comfortable, breathable, supportive, and flattering. I run in these, bought 2 pairs in my pre-pregnancy size, love them.
  • Flowy workout tanks – these are NOT maternity but they are extremely breathable, long, and flowy. I bought 1 size up and have plenty of room as my belly grows.
  • Maternity yoga pants – super inexpensive, I bought 3 pairs in my pre-pregnancy size, and I wear them every day when I’m at home or even running errands. I’m wearing them right now! Comfy for lounging, supportive for out and about.

And PS: already prepping fall and holiday content for my blog. Send recipe ideas and suggestions as I plan my Q4 editorial calendar!

  1. Wow! Congratulations!!!!! I am SO happy for you!!!
    You are in my prayers!

    P.S. Happy Easter!!!!

  2. Congratulations, Sally! Wishing you a healthy pregnancy and delivery. Then the real work starts. I hope you are able to keep up your site with the new addition to your family. It feeds my baking addiction, too. 🙂 I only started writing my food blog on maternity leave #5. It’s a lot to juggle, but I hope you manage. Looking forward to baking those muffins you posted yesterday, now that Passover is over and I can bake with wheat flour again!

  3. I’m late in reading this. So happy for you and Kevin!!!

  4. Congrats!!! 🙂

  5. Congratulations I’m so happy for you both.

  6. Many, many congratulations on the upcoming new addition to your family!  Your acknowledgement of  those struggling with fertility issues and pregnancy loss is incredibly touching and respectful.   After years of such challenges, I had our son when I was 36.  He is now 26 (omg!) and is still the light of our lives.  You and Kevin are sure to be the most wonderful parents ever – just look at how well Jude and Franklin have turned out!   ❤️

  7. Congratulations!!  So exciting!  A book and a baby!! 🙂

  8. For pregnancy clothes, I recommend buying a nursing tank top from Amazon now. They are $50 each, so you can buy one for pregnancy now. If you like it and nurse, you can just order 3 or 4 more in more colors after giving birth. If you don’t nurse, it’s just good support to sleep in and live in 24/7. I had 2 babies back to back and LIVED in them for over 3 years. They really helped me during the uncomfortable time of learning to nurse (and I flashed less skin in front of family and strangers at parks thanks to nursing tank tops!) They are durable too, just about when they are worn and saggy is when you’ll be ready to burn them.

  9. Sally!! Congrats!! Words can’t express how happy I am for you :’)
As Debbie said, you two will make wonderful parents lol! I wish you all the best!

  10. Congrats Sally & Kevin! So happy for you guys & you will make great parents! That baby is going to be spoiled with all of your cookies & cupcakes! I could totally see you making your own baby food purees & posting pictures of the colors they make! Enjoy every moment! It only goes by faster & faster!

  11. Congratulations to you and Kevin!!! You both seem like amazing, kind, and genuine people! You deserve all the happiness and success for everything you bring to us and all the joy your recipes spread! 🙂 This baby is going to be one lucky baby with lots and lotssss of amazing desserts around him or her!

  12. CONGRATULATIONS SALLY!!!!!!!!!!!! That is AMAZING NEWS, SOOOO happy for you!!!!!!! I’m sure that it will be difficult to juggle everything that you do with a baby, but if anyone can do it, it’s you! I am also a food blogger, (not half the food blogger that you are), a new mom, and also work full time! I’ve managed to stick with food blogging in spite of the craziness that motherhood brings and it’s been a really nice release actually! I’m psyched for you. Congrats again!

  13. Congratulations Sally! I’ve been following your blog for quite some time. So happy for you! Your world is going to change big time, but in a good way! 🙂 Good luck with your pregnancy!!

  14. Congratulations!! I hope you and Kevin are blessed with a healthy bundle of joy!

  17. CONGRATS SALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know I’m super late lol but congrats!

  18. That’s great news – well done on making it past the halfway mark! My third child (first boy!) is due on 11th Sept so it’s been a relief to make it through the winter’s nausea and exhaustion. Each pregnancy my baking has come to an abrupt halt for six weeks or so (my husband has demolished my chocolate supplies in the meantime). Since then, I have been trying out cookie recipes non-stop – I’m not sure whether to thank you or blame you 😉

  19. Congratulations, Sally! I totally teared up reading this awesome news. I wish you the healthiest, happiest pregnancy!

  20. Congrats to you & Kevin! I was traveling when you first posted this, so I didn’t see your exciting news until now. (I probably saw the subject if this was in one of your emails, and assumed it was about the new book!)

  21. Congrats Sally! You’ll be a fantastic mom! Blessings to you and yours!

  27. Congratulations!! Our oldest daughter and her husband are expecting September also….a little girl….on her 40th Birthday!! They too struggled to get pregnant….took 6 years, 3 miscarriages, and lots of fertility treatments before finally having a precious daughter in August 2007…..more fertility treatments resulted in a sweet boy in September 2009. They thought their family was complete but were shocked to find out in February that what she thought was the flu was actually her being pregnant….all on their own and totally not trying!! God sure has a sense of humor but we are all so excited to welcome grandbaby #8 in the Fall….

  28. A little late but wanted to say congratulations to you and Kevin
