Welcome to Sally’s Monthly Baking Challenge!

I started Sally’s Baking Challenge in 2017, and since then, thousands of home bakers all over the world have joined in the fun. Participants who choose to make the monthly challenge recipe at home and share a photo will be entered in a drawing to win a prize. Don’t think of this as a baking competition, but rather as a community baking together.

Sally’s Baking Challenge FAQ

What Is Sally’s Baking Challenge?

Sally’s Baking Challenge is a baking tradition that I created in 2017. I started this monthly baking challenge to connect with readers, create a positive baking community, and challenge myself (and readers) in the kitchen. Each month, I share a new Sally’s Baking Challenge recipe and encourage readers to bake that recipe during the month. The point is to help you learn new kitchen skills, get creative, and have fun!

How Does Sally’s Baking Challenge Work?

I publish a new challenge recipe on the 1st of each month, and it will be featured on this page. To enter, make the recipe during that month and then upload your recipe photo using the box above. (See How Do I Enter Sally’s Baking Challenge? next.) The program we use randomly selects 1 winner after the deadline. Sign up for Sally’s Baking Challenge emails so you’re alerted as soon as a new challenge recipe or post is published.

How Do I Enter Sally’s Baking Challenge?

After making the Sally’s Baking Challenge recipe, upload your recipe photo using the box above under where it says 2 Ways to Enter. The 1st entry must be sharing your recipe photo, and you will have to enter your name and email address (so we can contact you if you are the winner). As soon as you submit your photo and enter your name and email address, you are entered! For a bonus entry, leave a star review on the challenge recipe page. Feel free to share your recipe photo on social media using #sallysbakingchallenge, but the only way to guarantee you are in the running is by uploading your photo above.

Can I Upload Multiple Photos for More Entries?

No. Everyone can only enter once.

How Old Do You Have to Be to Participate?

Though bakers of any age can try these recipes, those younger than 18 should have adult supervision in the kitchen. And we ask that the email address submitting the entry photo belongs to an adult over the age of 18.

I Don’t Live in the USA. Can I Participate?

Yes, anyone can participate.

What Do I Win?

The randomly selected winner receives a $250 Amazon gift card.

How Is the Winner Chosen?

The application we use for Sally’s Baking Challenge randomly selects a winner.

When Is the Winner Announced?

The Sally’s Baking Challenge winner is announced on this page when the next month’s baking challenge is published. The winner is also contacted via email.

Where Do I Find the Challenge Recipes?

You can find the current month’s challenge recipe above, and all the previous Sally’s Baking Challenge recipes below.

Is Participation in Sally’s Baking Challenge Required?

No, participation is completely voluntary.

How Do I Sign Up for Sally’s Baking Challenge Emails?

Sign up for the Sally’s Baking Challenge email list here. If you are already a Sally’s Baking Recipes email subscriber, you will receive an email notification of when a new challenge recipe is published on the 1st of each month. However, to receive Sally’s Baking Challenge reminders during the month, plus an end-of-the-month recap, you’ll want to be on the Sally’s Baking Challenge email list, too! Sign up here.

What if I Don’t Like the Assigned Recipe?

The challenge recipes are optional, so if you’re not into the assigned recipe, you do not have to participate. Or, you can try the assigned alternate recipe linked above. I try to make the alternate recipe an allergy-friendly option. You still can only submit 1 entry (and bonus entry). You cannot enter with the challenge recipe AND alternate recipe in 1 month.

Can My Photo Also Include People?

No, we will not accept recipe photos that also include people’s faces. The only subject in the photo should be the food.
