December Baking Challenge

Homemade gingerbread house

The December Baking Challenge is epic. Huge. As big as a house. Literally.

On or around the 1st of every month, I post a new recipe complete with a how-to video, plenty of tips, tricks, and photos. I want you to bake the recipe yourself during that month, then come back and tell me how it went. Share your photos throughout the month using #sallysbakingchallenge on Instagram or email me, tweet me, or upload a photo of your recipe to my Facebook page. If you don’t like a particular flavor in that month’s recipe, there is an alternate challenge recipe. Here is where you can find all the recipes that have been baking challenges: Sally’s Baking Challenge page

November Baking Challenge recipe: Savory Vegetable Cheese Tart

So in love with this savory tart! One of the only savory baking challenges we’ve done, this savory veggie and cheese tart hits the spot as the weather cools down or if you’re in the mood for something DIFFERENT! Paired with a homemade buttery pie crust and herbed ricotta parmesan filling, the variety of veggies was in your hands. I love it with thinly slices sweet potatoes and onions, but you adorned your savory tarts with vegetables galore! Some variations I loved seeing: sun-dried tomatoes and spinach, zucchini, roasted mushroom and caramelized onion, zucchini and bell peppers, and broccoli and cheddar cheese.

Take a look at some of your photos on Instagram. And here’s a bunch that are either there, sent to me, posted on my Facebook page, or in my Facebook group.

Giveaway winner for November is Becca and she has been notified. 🙂

  1. Hey! Now this is a challenge I think I can get my husband interested in. How fun! I’ve never made a gingerbread house in all my 40 years. Can’t wait!

  2. I have always bought the prebaked boxes houses. Finally at 64 yrs old, will be attempting my 1st one EVER!! Can’t wait for granddaughters to come help decorate it!! Thank you so much for this challenge!!

  3. I love to bake, but have never baked/decorated a gingerbread house. My grown daughter and I have a tradition of baking and decorating gingerbread men and holiday cookies each year, which is so much fun. I think we shall give this challenge a try! 🙂

  4. Yay!! I’ve always wanted to make one they just look so pretty. I’m hoping I can find some time and bake, decorate and eat! So excited to read your recipe!

  5. Sally, I’ve watched as everyone attempted your challenges this year…but this is one I absolutely need to participate in…something I have wanted to challenge myself to do! Thank you for bringing us this challenge and showing us it is a doable project. I absolutely love your recipes and use them ALL the time in my daily baking.

  6. So timely! I have always done gingerbread houses from kits, but this year my cousin and I have set a date to bake and build homemade houses! I’m super excited about this post!

  7. Yay! I’m so excited. I’ve been thinking of buying one to decorate on my own this year aside from the one’s we do with the kids. Now I can make one on my own for the first time!

  8. The one problem with this challenge is that you’re making us wait until tomorrow for the recipe! Bah! I’m pretty sure I won’t be able to stand it. Ugh. LOL 🙂

  9. This is so perfect! Just had our first annual cookie dough making yesterday. My daughter made gingerbread cookie dough, that she plans to make a gingerbread house with. I’ll have to compare the recipe and see if it is similar to hold up to building with. I’ll share your blog with her so we can both enter the challenge.

  10. December is jam-packed. Between my own birthday, my father’s birthday, the birthdays of two nephews, a cousin, and Christmas and Chanukah baking, I might be a little busy. But this challenge is something that greatly piques my interest! Hopefully I can get on board! Thanks for posting it!

  11. Perfect perfect perfect!!!!!! Gingerbread is my favourite part of Christmas, but I’ve always been too scared to try an actual gingerbread house…but I will try this one!! Thank you Sally!!!

  12. Wow!!! . I never made a gingerbread house for Christmas. And I am happy to participate in this challenge. I want a kitchen aid … Thank you Sally

  14. My 5 year old was just asking if we could make a gingerbread house! What a great coincidence. Cannot wait to get started! (I’ve never made one before.)

  15. Ahhh!!! I am so excited!! I have never made a gingerbread house in my life. So this will be so fun!❤️❤️
