Kitchen Remodel: Before and After

Welcome to my new kitchen. It’s been one heck of a ride since February when we first began dreaming up a new design.

Before I take you into the new kitchen, I want to show you what the kitchen looked like when we bought the house. It was beautiful with dark features and a rustic cabin-like vibe that matches the rest of the home. We love this style, which is why we bought the home in the first place—it’s a timber frame structure with exposed beams throughout. But I knew this kitchen wouldn’t necessarily be the gourmet, bright white photography-ready kitchen my business requires, so we looked into remodeling options right away.

BEFORE:

AFTER:

Here’s what happened from March to August. The entire kitchen was gutted.

The bulkhead was removed to make room for larger cabinets. Due to the timber frame construction, we had to drywall the ceiling to obtain recessed lighting and an overall brighter kitchen. A large island was my top priority along with updated appliances.

And here we are today. This is my dream.

And the rest of the kitchen details!!

The copper farmhouse sink makes me actually WANT to do dishes.

We picked everything out from every appliance to the backsplash, countertops, and cabinets.

kitchen remodel with double ovens and refrigerator installed

Double ovens are a necessity as I pump out my future cookbooks. They are Thermador conventional ovens with a convection option. (All my recipes will continue to be written for conventional ovens.) Oversized refrigerator and freezer, separated by the home’s wood beam, for lots of food storage.

By the way, this baking pan storage is my favorite! Consider this if you ever do a remodel and want smart storage for baking pans.

Countertop: Cambria. Color: Windermere.

Cabinets: Koch. Door Style: Ridgegate, Wood: Birch, Finish: Pearl with Ginger Highlight

Cabinet hardware: pulls and knobs.

Backsplash: Daltile. Color: Tremiti sand.

Appliances: Thermador.

Pendant lights: Purchased from Lamps Plus. This exact model is no longer available.

Sink: Purchased from Copper Sinks Online. This exact model is no longer available.

Sink fixtures: Delta faucet

Kitchen stools: these are several years old and I can’t find them online. They were from Bed Bath & Beyond.

Other gizmos and gadgets: Hanging cast iron spoons/utensils were my husband’s grandmother’s.

Thank you to Owings Brothers Contracting for making this come to life!

Beautiful and so bright and cheary! We bought a new construction home 3 years ago everything is still so new but I will go lighter when we do a remodel probably in 10 years from now. My kitchen looks more like the before picture minus the beams! The baking pan storage is a dream I hate mine being in a bottom cupboard all stacked it’s back breaking to bend down to get my baking sheets! The wood beams are beautiful that’s great you were able to incorporate them into the design! A big island is a must it’s my favorite thing in my kitchen for sure!! Happy Baking!!!!!!!

Sally,  Your kitchen is beautiful.  I can tell you put a lot of thought into the design. I completely agree about the baking storage. I put one in my kitchen and use it to store baking pan and cutting boards. It really keeps everything in order and easy to get to. I love the island, it looks like the perfect place to do all your holiday baking.

Love it. Especially those refrigerator/freezer components. Storage is always king when you design a kitchen. Not just the amount of it, but what is going where. I remodeled our small condo kitchen 10 years ago. I only had the footprint I could use. And a limited budget. But we’re cooks so l measured all my items I wanted stored. From my deepest pot to the largest lid. I had my cabinets built around my dream stove. I printed out the specs for the builder so three years later we were able to slide the custom stove right in. But in place of the over the oven storage, I had toe kick drawers built. Cookie sheets and pizza stones fit in perfect. Plus I’m too short to reach above the oven 😉
Happy Baking in your new kitchen!

The old kitchen was beautiful, but the new kitchen is awesome, bright and looks so much larger. I especially like the appliances and the country sink! Love the dining room and the chandelier. Great job, you have excellent taste!

Wow, Sally, this is DREAMY!! You guys did an amazing job. We remodeled our kitchen 5 years ago and I still remember how much work went into all the details. You must be thrilled with how it turned out! 5 years later I still walk downstairs in the morning and marvel at our beautiful kitchen. Apparently it only takes 5 years to forget the hard parts though as we’re in the middle of a master bath remodel now 😉

So very happy for you with your new kitchen.  It is beautiful, and it must be a pleasure to work in.  Great decisions you made on the countertops, backsplash, cupboards etc and I especially love the sink.  Oh, the sink!  I don’t like doing dishes but I would not mind with THAT sink!  How difficult was the process of selecting everything, or did you already know pretty much what you wanted?  Very nice job!

Your new kitchen is beautiful. Will be perfect to keep creating your wonderful baking, yummy treats.  Sally’s Baking Addiction is my favorite blog that I follow.  I make a lot  of your recipes and I love the explanations and hints.  I have never had a recipe fail!   Back to the kitchen.  Love the cooper sink, lights over island, personalized cork box (going to order one).  Love the cabinets. Having just gone through the same 5 month kitchen remodel, I feel your joy and your pain. The process was horrible, dusty, dusty and more dust!   Thank you for the product list, that is so helpful. Love all your choices!

Oh my gosh!! Sally– I’m so very excited for you!! I love EVERYTHING about this kitchen! We are just in the beginning stages of thinking about the whole “gut the kitchen” remodel and it scares me to death! Mainly because our kitchen is at the center of our home and I just can’t imagine the mess and what a disruption it will be, not to mention the expense of it all. But oh, the final product I know will be worth it if it looks even half as good as yours. Being from Texas– that copper sink with the stars is my dream! And I love the skillet clock, what a great idea!! All that counter top is to die for and exactly what I need as well (though I don’t have room for that even with a remodel!) Enjoy! You deserve this kitchen!!!

Beautiful! Love the brightness and how much storage you have! I think that baking sheet storage is genius. Unfortunately our own kitchen remodel is a bit of ways off, but I’m going to see if I can do something like that temporarily in one of my cabinets. Bet you can find the right baking sheet so much faster now!
