Kitchen Remodel: Before and After

Welcome to my new kitchen. It’s been one heck of a ride since February when we first began dreaming up a new design.

Before I take you into the new kitchen, I want to show you what the kitchen looked like when we bought the house. It was beautiful with dark features and a rustic cabin-like vibe that matches the rest of the home. We love this style, which is why we bought the home in the first place—it’s a timber frame structure with exposed beams throughout. But I knew this kitchen wouldn’t necessarily be the gourmet, bright white photography-ready kitchen my business requires, so we looked into remodeling options right away.

Here’s what happened from March to August. The entire kitchen was gutted.

The bulkhead was removed to make room for larger cabinets. Due to the timber frame construction, we had to drywall the ceiling to obtain recessed lighting and an overall brighter kitchen. A large island was my top priority along with updated appliances.

And here we are today. This is my dream.

And the rest of the kitchen details!!

The copper farmhouse sink makes me actually WANT to do dishes.

We picked everything out from every appliance to the backsplash, countertops, and cabinets.

kitchen remodel with double ovens and refrigerator installed

Double ovens are a necessity as I pump out my future cookbooks. They are Thermador conventional ovens with a convection option. (All my recipes will continue to be written for conventional ovens.) Oversized refrigerator and freezer, separated by the home’s wood beam, for lots of food storage.

By the way, this baking pan storage is my favorite! Consider this if you ever do a remodel and want smart storage for baking pans.
