Let’s Review the October Baking Challenge
October 2019 Sally’s Baking Challenge Recipe: Homemade Caramel Apples
You nailed this recipe! Making homemade candy is no easy feat, but many of you were up for the caramel apple challenge in October. Some had trouble with the caramel not thickening up, but cooking it a little longer helped. Caramel apples are a staple treat during the fall season and I’m so glad you crossed it off your lists. Now you’ll feel more confident making them in the future, too!
One of my favorite recipe reviews came from reader Sonja:
“Love this recipe! The apples were so delicious and the homemade caramel is definitely so much better than any store bought one. Thank you Sally, for another great challenge recipe.”
We gathered as many caramel apples photo entries as we could and included them below. (Email is the best way to help guarantee your photo will be included!)
Giveaway winner for October is Jennifer and she has been notified. 🙂
I always love seeing these challenges–you’ve helped bring together such an amazing community of bakers and food enthusiasts! Happy almost-November, Sally!
Thank you so much for your kind words! I absolutely love the SBA community of bakers!
Congratulations to the winner! I’m not a particular fan of pumpkin, but maybe I’ll try out the pie crust designs and enter in the challenge anyway! I’ve only done it once before, and it’s so much fun, I MUST do it more often
I hope you will participate in November! 🙂
The November Pie Challenge looks like one I have made in the past and it’s very good. I make it as a slab pie for a crowd and those served loved the sweet crunchy topping. Looking forward in seeing your recipe and giving it a try.
LOVE that crunchy topping! So happy you’ll be participating in November’s challenge!
This challenge will be fun to put a new twist on a pie. Looking forward to the challenge.
I’m thrilled you’ll be participating in November, Sara! 🙂
Ah ha! So THIS is why you were stuck on the praline! It’s a beauty, Sally! Happy Halloween!
YES! 🙂 Thank you so much!
I really enjoyed making this pie! I don’t know why but pie crust intimated me and I was so please with how it turned out following this recipe! Then the mix of the pumpkin and praline topping were an awesome combination, love the sweet/salty and then the creamy and crunchy texture! Glad I joined the challenge!
Sally do you have a video on how to do the edges of a pie crust ? It gets me every time! Mine tastes great but is not pretty
Sure do! I have a video ready in the recipe I’m publishing tomorrow. 🙂

I have always been intimidated by pie. I have made a few and sometimes they turn out and others are experiments. Looking forward to this November challenge!
