November Baking Challenge

November 2019 Baking Challenge: Pecan Praline Pumpkin Pie

Did you know we’re on the verge of our 4th annual Pie Week? Surely the November Baking Challenge must be all about pie! I made an unforgettable praline pumpkin pie and I cannot wait for you to try it. Since pumpkin is a specific flavor, pie crust designs, which was the November 2017 Sally’s Baking Challenge, will be the alternative. That way even if you don’t like pumpkin, you can still participate with a homemade pie. Woohoo!

Everyone who participates in the November Baking Challenge is automatically entered. See below for How to Join Sally’s Baking Challenge. My assistants and I keep track of your photos and randomly select 1 winner at the end of the month. This giveaway is open to the whole world. Giveaway ends on November 30th 2019 at 5pm ET.

1 winner will receive: $250 Amazon Gift Card. Winner will be selected at random and posted in the December Baking Challenge blog post on December 1st 2019.

Let’s Review the October Baking Challenge

October Baking Challenge: Homemade Caramel Apples

You nailed this recipe! Making homemade candy is no easy feat, but many of you were up for the caramel apple challenge in October. Some had trouble with the caramel not thickening up, but cooking it a little longer helped. Caramel apples are a staple treat during the fall season and I’m so glad you crossed it off your lists. Now you’ll feel more confident making them in the future, too!

One of my favorite comments came from reader Sonja:

“Love this recipe! The apples were so delicious and the homemade caramel is definitely so much better than any store bought one. Thank you Sally, for another great challenge recipe.”

We gathered as many caramel apples photo entries as we could and included them below. (Email is the best way to help guarantee your photo will be included!)

Giveaway winner for October is Jennifer and she has been notified. πŸ™‚

  1. I always love seeing these challenges–you’ve helped bring together such an amazing community of bakers and food enthusiasts! Happy almost-November, Sally!

  2. Congratulations to the winner! I’m not a particular fan of pumpkin, but maybe I’ll try out the pie crust designs and enter in the challenge anyway! I’ve only done it once before, and it’s so much fun, I MUST do it more often

  3. The November Pie Challenge looks like one I have made in the past and it’s very good. I make it as a slab pie for a crowd and those served loved the sweet crunchy topping. Looking forward in seeing your recipe and giving it a try.

    1. I really enjoyed making this pie! I don’t know why but pie crust intimated me and I was so please with how it turned out following this recipe! Then the mix of the pumpkin and praline topping were an awesome combination, love the sweet/salty and then the creamy and crunchy texture! Glad I joined the challenge!

  4. Sally do you have a video on how to do the edges of a pie crust ? It gets me every time! Mine tastes great but is not pretty

  5. I have always been intimidated by pie. I have made a few and sometimes they turn out and others are experiments. Looking forward to this November challenge!

  6. This pie was amazing! Everyone at home devoured it! It did not last one hour! Definitely making this one again on Thanksgiving!!

  7. Hi Sally, could an Aussie participate in the challenge?
Love your recipes!! Especially the sciency info, it’s so helpful~
