September Baking Challenge

A new month and a season of change is upon us! There is so much to look forward to in the fall season. A fresh start, cool breezes, crisp mornings, cozy sweaters, leaves crunching, breathtaking colors, candy corn… I repeat: candy corn, fall candles, carving pumpkins, caramel apples, that first fire in the fireplace, alllllll the pumpkin baking, and COOKIES GALORE.

To tie in with this blissful new season, September’s baking challenge is a true beauty. We’ll challenge ourselves with pretty piped frosting! I received such a positive response about April’s baking challenge (the piped roses!) that I want to repeat something just like it for the fall.

But before we get to that, let’s recap what the baking challenge is.

What is the Baking Challenge?

  • On the 1st of every month, I post a new recipe complete with a quick how-to video, plenty of tips, tricks, and photos.
  • I want you to bake the recipe yourself during that month! Come back and tell me how it went.
  • If you’d like, share your photos throughout the month using #sallysbakingchallenge on Instagram or email me, tweet me, or upload a photo of your recipe to my Facebook page. I want you all involved!
  • If you don’t like a particular flavor in that month’s recipe, there is an alternate Monthly Baking Challenge recipe.

Recipe: Checkerboard Cake

MY OH MY. Did you bring your A game this month! August’s baking challenge was a tall order. Literally! A 4 layer checkerboard cake with oodles of vanilla frosting and plenty of sparkle ‘n’ shine. Your talent! It’s mind-blowing! Thank you so much to everyone who participated in August. Seeing all of your checkerboard cake masterpieces has been a highlight of my month.

September Baking Challenge

We’re piping SUNFLOWERS onto cupcakes!! When I think of September and the fall season, sunflowers come to mind. They are the epitome of sunshine and with all the chaos happening in the world right now, especially the current horror in Texas (prayers for everyone ♥), a happy cupcake is the perfect medicine.

Piping the flowers is much easier than you think, I promise. I’ll share a how-to video tomorrow, as well as detailed instructions, step-by-step photos, and the recipe. If I can do this, you can do this!
