September Baking Challenge + Giveaway!

Jump to Recipe

Thank you so much for entering this giveaway and supporting Sally’s Baking Addiction. Winner is: Traci who loves apple picking, carving pumpkins, and baking fall treats 🙂 and she has been notified via email.

A new month and a season of change is upon us! There is so much to look forward to in the fall season. A fresh start, cool breezes, crisp mornings, cozy sweaters, leaves crunching, breathtaking colors, candy corn… I repeat: candy corn, fall candles, carving pumpkins, caramel apples, that first fire in the fireplace, alllllll the pumpkin baking, and COOKIES GALORE.

To tie in with this blissful new season, September’s baking challenge is a true beauty. We’ll challenge ourselves with pretty piped frosting! I received such a positive response about April’s baking challenge (the piped roses!) that I want to repeat something just like it for the fall.

But before we get to that, let’s recap what the baking challenge is.

What is the Baking Challenge?

  • On the 1st of every month, I post a new recipe complete with a quick how-to video, plenty of tips, tricks, and photos.
  • I want you to bake the recipe yourself during that month! Come back and tell me how it went.
  • If you’d like, share your photos throughout the month using #sallysbakingchallenge on Instagram or email me, tweet me, or upload a photo of your recipe to my Facebook page. I want you all involved!
  • If you don’t like a particular flavor in that month’s recipe, there is an alternate Monthly Baking Challenge recipe.

Let’s Look Back on August

Recipe: Checkerboard Cake

MY OH MY. Did you bring your A game this month! August’s baking challenge was a tall order. Literally! A 4 layer checkerboard cake with oodles of vanilla frosting and plenty of sparkle ‘n’ shine. Your talent! It’s mind-blowing! Thank you so much to everyone who participated in August. Seeing all of your checkerboard cake masterpieces has been a highlight of my month.

Check out some photos using #sallysbakingchallenge hashtag on Instagram. And here’s a bunch that are either there, sent to me, posted on my Facebook page, or in my new Facebook group! (join us there! so much fun!) I tried to collect as many of your pictures as I could!!

September Baking Challenge

We’re piping SUNFLOWERS onto cupcakes!! When I think of September and the fall season, sunflowers come to mind. They are the epitome of sunshine and with all the chaos happening in the world right now, especially the current horror in Texas (prayers for everyone ♥), a happy cupcake is the perfect medicine.

Piping the flowers is much easier than you think, I promise. I’ll share a how-to video tomorrow, as well as detailed instructions, step-by-step photos, and the recipe. If I can do this, you can do this!

GIVEAWAY!

Thank you all so much for participating in my monthly baking challenges. Today I’m giving away some of the tools you’ll need to make September’s baking challenge recipe. There aren’t many, but you may not have them on hand. These are the exact baking tools I use in my own kitchen and I swear by them. 🙂

  1. Fall has always been my favorite season, even more so now that we celebrate our wedding anniversary and my husband’s birthday, in addition to mine! 🙂 I love that the temperatures are cooling off and and the changing colors are beautiful! <3

  2. My favorite thing about fall is pretty much everything! I love the sunflower, smells, cuddling up on the couch with a blanket, coffee, and a good book. I also love that you can bake pumpkin EVERYTHING!! I have already baked your Iced Pumpkin Coffee Cake!! It’s my favorite!

  3. My favourite thing about fall is the smell in the air  getting cosy on the sofa with a blanket and hot choc! Also all the prep for seasonal baking 🙂

  4. I pretty much love everything about fall – but I’d have to say the cooking and baking is my ABSOLUTE favorite thing! I love making all things apple, pumpkin, butternut squash, etc.

  5. My favorite thing about Fall-Football baby!! There are many other honorable mentions in this season, as it is my favorite one, but football is far and above the number one best reason for cooler weather!

  6. My favorite thing about fall is how the trees turn all orange and the leaves make too perfect piles as if it came from a movie, except it’s real life!

  7. Hello, going outside the smell of Fall – seeing the pumpkins at the store. Baking pumpkin pie, bread. Making apple pie. Bringing out my comfortable warm fuzzy clothes to wear. Having a cup of Hot Chocolate while I am enjoying the beautiful sky outside thinking about What to Bake? so many things.

  8. My favorite thing about fall is weekend drives through the mountains taking pictures of the changing colors of the leaves 🙂

  9. My favorite thing about autumn is being able to go camping without bugs, waking up to crisp cool air surrounded by colorful leaves and holding a steaming cup of campfire coffee before heading out to explore!
