Probably the first and most important reason I like to bake a cake and cupcakes is so I can ”test” the batter. You have to make sure it tastes alright before baking, right?
I’m also a sucker for sprinkles. Sprinkles everywhere, on everything.
I figure I’d add two of my favorite things, cake batter & sprinkles, to another favorite thing: chocolate chip cookies. Droooooool.
These cookies are so easy! All you have to do is replace some of the all-purpose flour in your typical chocolate chip cookie recipe with some yellow or white boxed cake mix. Add in a generous amount of sprinkles, and you’ll have yourself some funfetti chocolate chip cookies that are FULL of cake batter flavor.
I used both white chocolate chips and semi-sweet baking chips in my cookies. Feel free to use your favorite kind of baking chip. Milk chocolate would be a wonderful option as well.
If you like the taste of cake batter (c’mon, you know you do!), then you’ll flip for these cookies.

These look incredible! I love that they have absolutely every goody you could possibly be craving in them haha YUMMY!!
thank you!!
These are so cute!
Two of my favorite ingredients as well! These ingredients look delicious and I hope to try this recipe soon.
By the way I love your blog, I’ve been reading a lot about the chemistry of cookies and other baked goods and I like how you incorporate a lot of that knowledge into your baking to make the perfect cookie (using additional egg yolks, more brown sugar, etc.)!
Keep up the great posts!
Hi Samantha! That really, really means a lot to me! Thank you so much for the feedback. Sometimes I feel like a science nerd explaining my baking processes and recipe logic, but I’m glad that it really is helpful! You are so sweet. I’m glad you like these cookies! I plan to remake them again soon!
Oh, Sally, what are you doing to us? I love all your recipes and now I have a new one to try:) I LOVE your Cake Batter Sugar Cookies, have you ever tried them with chocolate chips? Just wondering how that would be…delicious I’m sure:)
Patty, this is SO SO funny because I currently have my cake batter sugar cookie dough chilling in my fridge… and they have CHOCOLATE CHIPS! We must think EXACTLY alike. I love it!
Easy peasy! Not only are they adorable, but I KNOW they’re delicious!! Your sprinkle-filled, cake battery goodness always makes me smile, girl

Thanks Hayley!! This is an older recipe that I remade for my bake sale. They were a hit! Everyone LOVES cake batter. Cannot go wrong!
Tasting the batter is totally the best part of baking. And when it’s funfetti, I believe it tastes even better for some reason. And I totally have to make more things with sprinkles; that’s one of the things I’ve loved since I can remember. No matter what flavor of ice cream I got at Baskin Robbins when I was a kid, I had to have sprinkles on it. Nothing like cherry ice cream with tons of sprinkles

I can’t have ice cream without SPRINKLES! Glad we’re in the same boat with that Laura! And I think cake batter and cookie dough taste better than their baked counterpart.
About how many cookies do you get from this recipe?
Hi Tatum! The recipe makes about 3 dozen cookies. I’ll include that now.
Thank you so much, can’t wait to try them.
Hi! I found your post at “Chef-In-Training” and would love for you to share it at my link party at http://mommyssweetconfessions.blogspot.com/2012/09/sweet-confessions-sunday-link-party-6.html. See you at the party!
Hey Lindsay! Thanks for the invite!
You are a girl after my own heart! Yes, how on earth will you know if a cake is going to be good without tasting the batter. I don’t know that I’d trust a baker that didn’t test batter, dough, frosting or whatever else they might be making. These sound wonderful and can’t wait to give them a try! It’s why I keep boxed cake mix in the pantry, for occasions like this! Pinned!

I couldn’t agree more Joan! The batter is the best part. SO glad that you agree with me. Thanks for the pin!
Holy smokes! Look at all those cake batter treats! They all look amazing!!!

Thanks Brianna! I love cake batter desserts. The batter is the best part of a cake
These are amazing. I just made some. Does it work the same with chocolate cake?
Hi Bobbi! Yes the cookies can be made with chocolate cake mix as well.
Made the Cake Batter Chocolate Chip Cookies with the kids over the weekend and they turned out amazing! They were a huge hit and everyone just absolutely loved these great bakes. Thank you for sharing this recipe. These cookies are surely to become a regular for us now during the Holidays =)
They are one of my favorites – and so easy too! I’m glad you and the family liked them!
Love these….I especially love them with butterscotch chips, no sprinkles!
Thanks Elizabeth! Wow, adding butterscotch chips is a GREAT idea. I never thought of that!
these tasted great but didnt end up being soft cookies
they were more crumbly than soft and chewy!
I found that mine were TOO soft! Did you sift the cake mix as directed? So sorry Natasha!
I just made these tonight and they were fantastic!! Thanks for the recipe
Preeti, I’m so glad to hear that! I haven’t made these in awhile, but you are tempting me to make again soon
Baking soda ? Or baking power ?
baking soda
I’m making these for my family Christmas party along with some other goodies!! I was wondering how much flour you exchanged for the cake mix? Can’t wait to try these
