April 2019 Baking Challenge: Dinner Rolls

Many of you tell me that yeast recipes intimidate you, so I published a Baking with Yeast Guide last week. We’re taking it one step further and dedicating the April Baking Challenge to homemade dinner rolls. Yeast recipes seem so complicated, but when you understand what’s happening, they’re totally approachable. If you participated in the January Baking Challenge (homemade bagels), you know that baking with yeast isn’t too scary. And knowing how to bake awesomely soft dinner rolls should be a mandatory life skill. 😉

2019 is the year you will tackle your fears of yeast!

Everyone who participates in the April Baking Challenge is automatically entered. See below for How to Join Sally’s Baking Challenge. My assistants and I keep track of your photos and randomly select a winner at the end of the month. This giveaway is open to the whole world. Giveaway ends on April 29th 2019.

1 winner will receive: $250 Amazon Gift Card. A winner will be selected at random and posted in the May Baking Challenge blog post on April 30th 2019.

Let’s Review the March Baking Challenge

March Baking Challenge: Lemon Bars

When life hands you lemons, you make… a ton of lemon bars! Each new month brings more Sally’s Baking Challenge participation and I’m so happy to say that March 2019 showed the most entries yet! Most of you baked lemon bars, but I saw several variations including orange bars, lime bars, and grapefruit bars. Some topped their lemon bars with toasted meringue topping and others shaped their lemon bars with cookie cutters. And many of you said this is your new “go to” lemon bar recipe. Thank you so much for joining me in March and sharing your beautiful lemon bar creations!

We gathered as many lemon bars photo entries as we could and include them below. (Email is the best way to guarantee your photo will be included!)

Giveaway winner for March is Jenna and she has been notified. 🙂

Thank you Sally…..your tutorials and the way you explain everything really and truly honestly do help to get over a fear of yeast because when you understand it, there’s nothing to be afraid of! 🙂

  5. Hi Sally,
I’ve made your bread bowls …a baking challenge a while ago…my hubby’s favorite white bread recipe , artisan bread and oatmeal bread.. never tried dinner rolls…another item off my bucket list. Can’t wait to see the recipe!

  6. 1 of my grandma’s used to make rolls from scratch and she never measured anything. They were either perfect or you could take people out with them.Way too hard. This is definitely intimidating and something I have hoped to one day accomplish.

  7. I love baking with yeast. Nothing better than homemade bread or rolles. We’re looking forward to bake this rolles

  8. I’m thinking using some of them for ham and cheese sliders. Also thin sliced roast beef with melty cheese and a bit of horseradish.

  9. Wow, that’s a lot of beautiful lemon bars!! February was my first challenge I completed and I am hooked now! Can’t wait to try these rolls.

  10. I had the same problem a few others mentioned, that the dough was sticky and kind of loose after the first knead. There was no making it into a ball, like Sally did. I continued on, and my final result was amazing. My husband couldn’t stop his yumming about the rolls. Funny thing, our exchange student asked how I made the rolls square. He thought I put the dough in the pan in one piece, and carved lines to make individual rolls. Fortunately, I took enough photos to show him how it worked. 🙂 Thanks Sally, for giving some of us the confidence needed to try new things.
