Let’s Review the February Baking Challenge

February 2017 Sally’s Baking Challenge Recipe: Chocolate Lava Cakes

February’s baking challenge was chocolate lava cakes– and it was the first month I tested this baking challenge out. And I was blown away by your response! So many of you felt a monthly baking challenge was exactly what you needed to get out of a winter slump, get creative in the kitchen, and challenge yourself. Reading your comments and excitement meant the world to me and motivated me to brainstorm each monthly baking challenge recipe for the remainder of the year.

One of my favorite recipe reviews came from reader Allison:

“I have been wanting to learn how to bake these and I’ve seen several different methods. But the search is over as these were amazing and tasted just as good if not better than ones I’ve had at restaurants!”

We gathered as many chocolate lava cakes photo entries as we could and included them below. (Email is the best way to guarantee your photo will be included!)

PS: Did you try the lava cakes? What did you think?

Reader Questions and Reviews

  1. Hi Sally!!
Really loving the baking challenge idea! So fun! I’m already excited for the pie recipes you mentioned.  The lava cakes were a hit, so chocolaty & delicious!! I’ll need to see who will come over to help me eat the chocolate pie for the March challenge (although I don’t think i’ll have trouble finding volunteers)….. I’ll be making a ton of cupcakes for a bridal shower in April & using your recipes of course. Have a wonderful week Sally!

  2. The Lava Cakes were a hit. My husband was super skeptical about them and was giving my a hard time. Once he took a bite he said it was the best thing he ever ate! I made them two more times! Once classic and another peanut butter. Thank you so much. It is so easy but impressive.

  3. Sally, the monthly baking challenge is brilliant! Thank you! I tried the lava cakes (having made them once before) for a Valentine’s Day treat and my Hubs loved them! It was perfectly special for love day. Unfortunately in our chocolate madness we forgot to take a pic. Oh well, better luck next month! Looking forward to the March baking challenge!
