Dark Chocolate Cherry Nutella Granola

dark chocolate cherry nutella granola

Breakfast or dessert? Who knows! Who cares.

I love making homemade granola. The flavor options are endless and you have complete control over the ingredients. Today’s flavor is my new favorite.

What I love most about this dark chocolate cherry Nutella granola recipe is that there aren’t many ingredients. (Just 5!) The nutella acts as the binder, while the maple syrup thins it out and sweetens the oats up a bit. I threw in tart dried cherries for a flavor contrast and finished it with dark chocolate chips. Why not?!

Pour some milk over it and enjoy leftover Nutella milk at the end of your bowl. Best part!

You’ll love this super simple 5 ingredient sweet & tart dark chocolate cherry Nutella granola!

  • 2 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup Nutella
  • 1/4 cup + 1 Tablespoon pure maple syrup (or honey)
  • 3/4 cup dried cherries
  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F (163°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper (or Silpat) and set aside.
  2. Mix the oats and dried cherries into a large bowl and set aside. In a small bowl, melt the Nutella and maple syrup together in the microwave (about 30 seconds). Stir until completely smooth and liquidy.  Pour Nutella mixture over oats and cherries. Make sure all of the oats are evenly moistened. Spread evenly over prepared baking sheet. Bake for 30 minutes, stirring at each 10 minute interval.
  3. Remove from the oven and sprinkle chocolate chips over the hot granola (no need to stir). The chips will melt down a bit. Let the granola cool completely. Please note that it will be soft when removed from the oven– it will crunch up when exposed to air. Mine took about 30 minutes to crunch up. Enjoy!

  1. BUT…have you tried making Nutella yet?? 😮

    1. Hi Trudy! I haven’t made my own Nutella yet! I should try it someday 🙂

  2. O.m.g.
I tried this recipe for the first time last Monday – I’ve made 4 batches since ! (Big compliment considering I was away from home 3 out of the seven days).

This recipe is life changing I love it so much.
    Thank you 🙂

    1. I’m so so glad Alett! I love this granola – definitely one of my favorites. I haven’t made it in awhile, but I’m thinking that needs to change. 🙂

  3. alyssa @ cogs and cupcakes says:

I think most of my Nutella disappears my means of spoon directly to mouth. 🙂 This looks so great; I have some of the mocha cappuccino hazelnut spread left that I might try this with!

    1. Hey Alyssa! I love that Mocha cappuccino spread! I’ve never used it in this granola though. That sounds heavenly. A must try! Thank you for suggesting 🙂

  4. I was thinking about making small cookie tray gifts for a few coworkers for the holidays but my issue is I need to bake everything this weekend and I won’t give stuff out until next Friday. THEN I ran across your granola recipes…this I think would work. I would like to do a couple of flavors…which ones do you find keep the best? I am leaning towards this Dark Chocolate Cherry Nutella one (I HAVE to get the Nutella out of my house! It’s dangerous!) and maybe the Oatmeal Cookie granola? What do you think? What holds up best?

    1. BOTH are amazing. Two of my favorites – and two of my fiancé’s favorites too. This version stays super crunchy for a long time. I suggest this one!

  5. I want to make this for a church buffet but was wondering how is the best way to store it and how early can I make it – a week???

    1. A week is fine – store in an airtight container.

  6. Thank you for such a wonderful recipe Sally! I’m also a notorious granola lover but my boyfriend who is deeply suspicious of ‘healthy’ food never shared my enthusiasm…I know right. Well, I made this for myself (or so I thought) on Sunday and long story short, he’s eaten it in a smoothie parfait as well as by the sneaky handful. It is now Tuesday and that batch is only a memory, but he’s asked me to bake up some more tonight so he can take a little snack pot to work tomorrow. Success! He’s even asked that I make the Triple Chocolate Crunch Granola this weekend, I was blown away. And this is a guy whose breakfast consists of either a donut or a Nutella sandwich. Now I know how to use that sweet tooth to healthy advantage 🙂

    1. Haha sounds great Nicole! This stuff is so, so good. I truly don’t think it tastes healthy at all. In small quantities, it truly makes a healthy snack. But I can never stop at a “small” handful haha.

  7. After seeing this recipe, I may never eat anything else for breakfast 🙂

  8. Sally…..I just made this Nutella Dark Chocolate Cherry Granola………It is so delectable……….You have the most amazing recipes….Best granolas every…
