Coffee Break

Vacation style.

I’m in St. Lucia this week for my sister’s wedding. There’s about 20 of us here and we’ve all been keeping pretty busy between the pool, beach, sunset sails, kayaking, and daiquiris (tough life, eh?). But I had to pop in and show you this place!

I’ve had many of you ask where we are staying and we are at Coconut Bay Resort, a stone’s throw from the St. Lucia airport. Loving it here so far and would absolutely recommend it as a honeymoon, getaway, wedding location etc.

If you ever come, make sure you get a hot stone massage right on the beach. Is this paradise or is this paradise.

Saundra and Bob’s big day is TODAY so I’ve gotta jet. Big things are happening!

PS: I’ve been super snap happy lately so follow along on Snapchat (sallysbakeblog) for more vacation pics. Have a fabulous weekend! Bake something for me!

  1. Hi, I’m curious, at these exotic wedding locations, how can the bride and groom be sure everyone will afford the plan tickets and hotel bookings? Do the bride and groom pay for their guests?

    1. My husband and I went with friends to Cabo San Lucas in October.  We met a couple who was down there checking out places for their wedding.  I wondered the same as the question you posted.  The fiancé is Indian and if they got married in New Jersey where they lived, they would have had a much larger wedding and by doing it there they were having less people so it was coming out to around the same money wise.

    2. Hi Cindy,
For the most part, I don’t believe most brides and grooms pay for their guests expenses to attend. Just like someone getting married in New York and invites someone from L.A., the guests pay their own way should they choose to attend. One of my daughters’ was maid of honor at her best friend’s wedding and paid her own way; the bride and groom paid for the rehearsal and reception dinner, as they did for everyone who attended. To be honest, I kind of think most brides and grooms do not expect everyone they invite to a destination wedding to attend but certainly are happy when some can. The wedding is all about what the bride and groom want and if they feel they want a wedding in a location other than local to friends and family, they are aware that many may not be able to attend; but guests are welcome if they can afford the cost! Of course, we are not wealthy and neither are our friends so I could be wrong, but just my take on things.

    3. Cindy, typically brides and grooms take into consideration the cost of the hotel and travel when booking location. I can’t speak for all, but that’s the norm. And with destination weddings– like others have said– you know that not all the guests will be able to travel the distance. It’s expensive, no matter what. Some couples even have parties after arriving home so the guests who could not attend the destination wedding can celebrate with them.

  2. Wow those pictures look amazing. Wish I could be there

    Kisses from ❤

  3. Lots of happy wishes for your sister and her husband to be! Can you pls post a pic of you 3 sisters? (If it’s not private of course!) I want to see the dresses. Enjoy your stay and have fun.

  4. Oh that is so gorgeous… and you capture it gorgeously!  🙂  One of my farmers’ market friend’s family has spent time on St Lucia for their church mission work, and what she’s told me is very interesting.  Maybe we will visit there sometime!  Have a fantastic day and best wishes to the newlyweds!!

  5. Marina @ A Dancer's Live-It says:

Absolutely gorgeous photos Sally!! I wish your sister every happiness and I hope everyone else has an amazing time! <3

  6. I’m hoping you all have a beautiful memorable day. As for me, I’ve just printed 4 of your recipes and am off to the grocery store for a few ingredients.Blueberry streusel muffins and mango scones….sounds wonderful! I’ll pretend I’m eating them in sunny St.Lucia instead of cold and snowy Virginia! Best wishes to your sister and her new husband.

    1. Ahhh those mango scones! Love them so much. I had the juiciest, sweetest mango here in St Lucia the other morning.

  7. haley @cupcakes and sunshine says:

  10. Amazing Congratulations and Enjoy

  11. Dee @ The Kitchen Snob says:

Great photos, Sally! Looks like heaven and I’m thoroughly jealous 😉

  12. I have been LOVING your snaps lately! When you were boating, the views were GORGEOUS! I am so happy you have a week of relaxation before your tour starts all over again. One of these days, I hope we can just meet up to chat and be nerdy 😎 Please enjoy a tropical mojito (or 5) for me! I hope your sister’s wedding day is magical and runs smoothly for her. I can’t wait to see pictures!

    1. Oh my gosh the sunset sail was completely breathtaking!

  13. Michelle @ Modern Acupuncture says:

Gorgeous! Thanks so much for sharing, Sally. Really needed a sunny pick me up to banish the winter blahs here. Looking forward to more pictures!

  14. Jessica @ Citrus Blossom Bliss says:

I’m at home looking out the window at depressingly crunchy snow banks from last weekend’s snowstorm and totally wishing I could reach through the screen and grab that drink–or jump through the screen straight onto the beach. Happy wedding day to your sister and her soon-to-be husband! Enjoy every minute!

  15. Sharon K (The Farmer Chick Bakes) says:

Super gorgeous weather it appears! Wow! Be sure to post a picture of Saundra & Bob on your blog or Instagram. I’m not on snapchat. Can’t wait to see more pics. Enjoy the remaining time there and safe travels back! I made your Chicken Chili recipe today! YUMMO! I added 2 dashes of “liquid smoke”, bacon and yes, sadly, a dollop of sour cream and shredded cheddar cheese on top! The cream cheese was a wonder addition at the end too 🙂

    1. I’ll share a photo of them on my blog in a few days for sure! Your version of my chili sounds absolutely incredible.

      1. Sharon K (The Farm Chick Bakes) says:

I’m so bummed, Sally…I was planning on coming down to meet you this Thursday at the Wayne Art Center and attend the Cooking Demo & Signing, but I’m now in a 2-day meeting Thurs & Friday! At any point will you be doing a signing locally here in between your out of state Book Tours?

      2. Sharon, I’m sure I’ll have more Philly book signings! I don’t have any scheduled at this point, but will keep my blog updated if anything gets on the calendar.

  16. So jealous of your vacation! I haven’t been anywhere tropical in ages (Clearwater for Phillies’ spring training is the closest I’ve gotten in the past year). I hope you’re having a wonderful time!

My birthday was this past weekend, so for my party I made your Pizza Dip, Triple Chocolate Cake (decorated with mini M&Ms because color) and Cake Batter Cookies. And for work today, I made muffins–Nutella-stuffed cinnamon sugar and double chocolate. The rule at work is you bring in something for your own birthday, which is JUST fine with me 🙂

    1. What an AMAZING collection of recipes you chose Liz! I always brought a treat in for my own birthday at my old job. Haha I loved it.

      1. Yeah, it’s kind of always been my thing. I can’t tell you how many people said “You’re making your OWN birthday cake?” “Of course!” “But someone else is supposed to make it.” “But…then I wouldn’t get to bake!”

      2. Ha! Exactly.

  17. Kayle (The Cooking Actress) says:

sooo beautiful! have fun at the wedding!!!

  18. Ridiculous photos. Adding this destination to my hubs and my ‘wish list’ – the sea kayak will get him if the turquoise waters and gorgeous scenery don’t! Enjoy every blessed second!

    1. I’ll be sharing more pictures soon, too!

  19. pooja @ laptop chip level repairing course says:

    @ SALLY

I’m interested, at these extraordinary wedding areas, in what manner can the spouse and lucky man make certain everybody will bear the cost of the arrangement tickets and lodging bookings? Do the spouse and man of the hour pay for their visitors.

    1. Well, typically the couple takes the cost of the hotel and travel into consideration when booking a destination wedding location. I’ve never been to a destination wedding where the couple pays for the guests. Also– with these destination weddings, you know that not all the guests will be able to travel the distance because it is expensive. Some couples have parties after arriving home so the guests who could not attend the destination wedding can celebrate with them.

  20. What gorgeous pictures!! Have a good time!
