Your list was so timely! I am 75 and wanted to make recipe books that are personalized for my grandchildren of their favorite recipes I made for them through years. Each one will be different due to their personal likes. I’m hoping it will be a nice reminder of our meals and baking times together. I have a small collection of pictures of them of baking together to go with some of the recipes we’ve made together. I can’t wait to order them and get started. Thank you so very much!
Wondering what the best surface for rolling out dough would be? Should i invest in wooden board or a marble one ? Ive purchased a couple of your recommended rolling pins, the adjustable one and the beautiful marble one in the wooden holder. Your advise is always the best.
I am older but rather inexperienced at handling dough . Thank you!
Lynne
Hi Lynne! Great question. It can depend on the type of dough you’re working with, but in general, wood and marble should both work. One advantage to using a marble surface is that it is cooler, which can be especially helpful when working with doughs like pie crust and sugar cookies, which rely on keeping the dough cold. We hope this helps!
I’m wondering where to find your engraved fork I’ve seen in some of the photos… I know you linked to it in at least one recipe, but I read so many of them I can’t recall which one! If I missed it on here, I apologize. (I looked on Etsy, but didn’t quite see what I was looking for.) Thanks in advance!
Hi Shannon! It is from Etsy, years ago. We canโt seem to find the exact Etsy shop this one came from, but here is a similar one: https://www.etsy.com/listing/153747276/eat-dessert-first-recycled-silverware
Hi Sally! My friends and I were discussing how much we miss your challenges. We have been exploring our momโs and grand momโs cookbooks for something we can work with. And we are working hard on learning cane decoration. Weโve learned a lot and our decorated sugar cookies and cupcakes have become a huge hit!
We are wondering if you plan to do the Pie week or the 10 days of Christmas cookies? We love them!
Hi Barb, absolutely! Sally’s Pie Week and Sally’s Cookie Palooza are two of my favorite times of year/website traditions! And I’m bringing back the challenges next year. ๐ I decided to take a break so I could work on my manuscript this year.
Hi Sally – and your team!
Iโm visiting your website tonight for the first time, from Ireland, and Iโm very impressed. The red velvet layer cake brought me to your website & Iโll most definitely be trying out this recipe v soon!
Your baking tools list and gifts list are great. Iโm glad to see you recommend Nordic Ware bakers sheets – Iโve been using them for over a year now & find that food cooks far more evenly on them; also versatile for different sweet or savory recipes. Theyโve already โearnedโ their spot in my new small kitchen. Iโm back to making Bundt cakes and so impressed with the sheer variety of their pans, Iโve started a collection! Their Bundt cake pans come in different cup capacity sizes – something important for folks to check if buying one. They come in 6 cup, 10 cup and 15 cup options, for cakes to suit different occasions & numbers of guests. Iโve had several deliveries from Nordic Ware in the past 18 months – speedy shipping and delivery and everything arrives in perfect condition, very well packed. They even offer recipes for the use of each pan, in addition to care instructions, on the front and back of the colorful wrapper surrounding each cake pan. Finally, in my last order, I specified that one of the Bundt cake pans was a gift, so they sent me a separate box (within the overall packaging) to use to gift wrap the cake pan for my friend – so they went the extra proverbial mile. That was impressive & great customer service.
And no, I donโt work for or have any association with Nordic Ware, save being a very happy customer. And as you had some excellent items on those gift lists…. Nordic Ware have some very elegant mini-Bundt shaped decorations one could wrap around gifted baked goods, or keep for the Christmas tree! Oh, and they have great cup and spoon measures, yes, with Bundt cake markings: functional, pretty, and less expensive gifts for the budding (or experienced) bakers in any home!
Finally, Iโm on about my third wooden rolling pin, but came across a great one at Ann Clarke cookie cutters – it is made in such a way that when cookie dough is rolled out, it will get to the correct thickness of the sugar cookies: 1/4 inch thickness – the baker may have to โrollโ the dough, and use cookie cutters, but at least the cut cookie shapes will all be of uniform thickness, to ensure even cooking, across a sheet of cookies; also easier to decorate minimizes waste, and thereโs no fighting as to one person receiving a bigger cookie than anyone else – It really works!!! All I could do was shake my head and say โHow did I ever manage without it, all these years?โ!!!
I also saw a rolling pin with several sets of colored bands, online and by sliding a pair of matching colored bands, one band at each end of the rolling pin, the baker can similar to above, control the thickness of the cookie dough/ pastry, with 3 or 4 options, which might be useful to your readers. Iโve kept the rolling pins to two – the good โold-fashionedโ one for pastry making and the Ann Clarke one for sugar cookies, which once cool, are iced. I have yet to see cookie cutters to surpass the Ann Clarke ones – they donโt tarnish, theyโre very sturdy, easy to use. They come in the most amazing shapes and every event or occasion is catered for, across all walks and chapters of life – and they regularly have discounted promotions. These help, if trying to grow a collection of cookie cutters and color gels, etc – especially if one is trying to encourage kids to gather โround in the kitchen, to be involved in the process, whether rolling dough, using the cutters and if they stay long enough to decorate, it usually brings out their own artistic flair! And no, I donโt do any work with Ann Clarke & Co. either.
Time to go…… โcookie dutyโ tomorrow, so I must get some sleep. Thank you for such a great website. Iโve taken plenty โscreen grabsโ for tools youโve recommended and methinks the red velvet cake might be delish, and if so, Iโll simply have to come back and try out more of your amazing looking recipes.

I just got the Nordic ware mini scone pan after eyeing it for quite some time. I normally just go for โrusticโ scones but the scones came out so perfect and pretty! A perfect gift for a scone-maker!
I have so many baking supplies. I don’t need a Tshirt or candle but for my birthday this year I got the best gifts. I got a 20 pound bag of flour, sugar, flat of eggs good vanilla and good chocolate. Those were the best. Christmas I got a baking class great fun.
Hi Lanie! The Sally’s Candy Addiction book is only available as an eBook for now, which is why the price is so high for hard copies. Hopefully it will be back in print at some point! Thank you so much for making and trusting our recipes.
Hi, great list. I have a question, love the decals for the mixer. Once you have placed them, do they remove easily in future if you decide you want them off or want a change? Thanks JD
Hi CR! See #2 under the “Thoughtful Baking Gifts & Sets” for a turntable recommendation. We link to trusted candy thermometers in our homemade caramel apples post – see the “Tools You Need…” section. Thanks!
What a complete list of baking gifts! I’ll probably end up spending hours checking each one of them but I’m sure that I’ll find something for every member of my family. Maybe the perfect gift will get them into the kitchen more, some of them could definitely use the incentive.
Thank you for this gift guide! Do you have any recommendations for boxes/small tins when gifting baked goods? I’ve been wondering if there are any air-tight ones that could be used.
Hi Steph! What a great question. I’m not sure if this will link properly (copy and paste into your browser if needed), but I’ve used something similar to these before: https://www.etsy.com/listing/189290434/6-kraft-compostable-salad-boxes-wedding
I like boxes with transparent window so you can see the beautiful baked goods. These are cute for the holidays: https://www.amazon.com/Christmas-Cookie-Boxes-Packaging-Containers/dp/B098QZVBH8/ and so are these: https://www.amazon.com/OurWarm-Christmas-Holiday-Packaging-Containers/dp/B08D6QJQHQ/
Hi! I not only a baking addiction, but i love to cook the food from different countries or cultures. I really like your recipes and I hope the website can add a function to save those recipes to a personal email.
Anyone with kids the Hasty Baker game is so fun! My kids got it for Christmas from Sally’s previous list, and all my kids love playing it! Definitely recommend.

Which Oxo scale would you recommend if I will only use for baking? Is the 5 pound sufficient or should I buy the 11 pound?
Hi Mary, the 5 lb has always worked great for us!
I just got the Nordic ware mini scone pan after eyeing it for quite some time. I normally just go for โrusticโ scones but the scones came out so perfect and pretty! A perfect gift for a scone-maker!
What a great resource! Thank you so much for compiling this list. I am bookmarking it for future gift ideas.

So fun to click through the list to look at everything! Great gift ideas, too! I am definitely sprucing up my old plain white mixer! ๐
So glad you found this page resourceful (and fun!).
