30 Real Food Recipes for Memorial Day Weekend

From fruit tart and cherry pie to sangria and black bean burgers, get inspired with these 30 homemade Memorial Day recipes. Perfect for your summer BBQs!

Fruit tart with strawberries and blueberries

By “real food recipes” I mean simple from-scratch dessert, snack, and drink recipes without an onslaught of artificial ingredients. Think: 3 ingredient whipped cream, fresh fruit pies and tarts, focaccia with an easy homemade dough, strawberry lemonade made with actual fruit, make-ahead salads, and so much more.

I felt inspired to share this round-up because I was searching Pinterest for a festive Memorial Day recipe and found it difficult to sift through all the recipes with instant pudding, canned pie filling, and cool whip. Don’t get me wrong, shortcuts are convenient and my favorite cake batter chocolate chip cookies start with a box of cake mix, but nothing beats homemade. ♥

The following 30 Memorial Day recipes highlight summer’s beautifully fresh flavors!

12. Fresh Fruit Tart

Summer holidays and fruit tarts go hand-in-hand, so I hope you try my fresh fruit tart with vanilla mascarpone cream. I garnished it with strawberries, blueberries, and homemade whipped cream.

13. Pavlova

Pavlova features three completely different textures in one single bite. Top with your favorite fresh fruits, homemade lemon curd, or whipped cream. Love this summer beauty!

  22. Have a great birthday today, Sally! Thanks for this holiday round-up…it saves us all a bunch of browsing through your different categories :). I tried your icebox cake last year, and it was so amazing! It was such a different type of dessert than what most of us are used to, and well worth the little bit of work it takes to assemble. Plus, it’s fun!

  23. Happy birthday ma’am! I hope it was your favourite cake…

I made Pavolva this weekend without even having seen this post, mainly because it’s Bank Holiday over here tomorrow and I didn’t want to have to make two lots of dessert. The three of us will easily finish it over two days – with whipped cream, raspberry sauce AND strawberries!

  24. Happy Birthday Sally! Hope you have a wonderful day. Do not cook one thing.

  25. This weekend I am trying to make French bread for a picnic and homemade marshmallows without corn syrup for s’mores and rhubarb torte. I also need to make brownie cookies for the s’mores and vanilla wafers and pastry cream for the rhubarb tort. As well as homemade fettuccine and limeade.

With kitchen-tested quality recipes and step-by-step tutorials, my goal is to give you the confidence to bake and cook from scratch.
